OTHER NEWS THAT'S FIT TO PRINT

A NIGHT AT THE OPERA...ER... PHILHARMONIC!
Fred with his neighbor, Dennis Ferrigno, who plays with the Phil.  He was 'instrumental' in setting up last years' chamber music event
Funny, I only see margaritas, no food?!

Seventeen Rotarians spent a fun evening with the Arapahoe Philharmonic recently.  Following dinner at Three Margaritas, people headed over to the pre-concert talk with our old friend, Devin Patrick Hughes.  In his usual form, he gave his fascinating background on composer Dmitri Shostakovich, a Russian pianist and composer of the Soviet period. He is regarded as one of the major composers of the 20th century. The rendition of Modest Mussorsky's Pictures at an Expedition was outstanding. Also on tap was the 16 year virtuoso, Phoenix Avalon, an extraordinary talent who has won a number of awards and has been featured on NPR’s From the Top, is featured in Shostakovich’s virtuosic First Violin Concerto in A minor. People were astonished that this teen soloed for 45 minutes - with no sheet music, all memorized.

The group was treated to a designated seating area, close to the action.  The club was even listed in the program as a doner!  Thanks to Fred Warnaars for putting this great event together.  Attendees would like to see this become an annual event!

WOMEN OF ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS - NOMINATIONS NEED TO BE IN AT THIS WEEK'S MEETING!
We have a great opportunity to honor the women of our club who have given in so much to Rotary.  With the Women of Rotary Achievement awards, our club members have a chance to honor our amazing women.  The event is sponsored by Parker's Cherry Creek Valley Rotary Club.  Not surprisingly, it coincides with the 30th anniversary of women in Rotary.

Old and new members alike have taken on leadership roles, headed committees, spent countless hours planning and executing volunteer projects. We want our clubwomen to shine at this event, get our name out there!

Here is what you need to know:
1.  Please include your name on the form!
2.  Fill out the nomination form COMPLETELY!
3.  Write a glowing recommendation in these sections:
-- qualities your Nominee possesses
-- story illustrating a specific contribution made by your nominee
4.  The above are what the overarching selection committee will use in their selection process.  So make it great! Paint a picture of the work your nominee has done. Call your nominee if you need more info or a run down on her qualifications.
5.  AND you can submit more than 1 form.  But only one nomination will be valid per individual.
6.  This Thursday is the DEADLINE! So bring it to the meeting

DEADLINE IS THIS THURSDAY!    DEADLINE IS THIS THURSDAY!

GREAT EVENING AT IFCS' NIBBLES & SIPS
This event, An Evening of Raising the Roof to Prevent Homelessness and Hunger, is where the community comes together to support those struggling to overcome societal obstacles; such as illness, domestic violence, homelessness, hunger, unemployment, and crime victimization. The evening's 2017 Honoree was St. Andrew United Methodist Church - Highlands Ranch.  Our club was last years' honoree.

IFCS is the largest, non-sectarian social-services agency serving Englewood to Bennett (Western Arapahoe and Northern Douglas Counties).

NEW GREETER PROGRAM - BOB WALSH WILL CONTACT YOU

We've been talking about this for a long time...the importance of welcoming people to the meeting.  Now we're getting serious!  You will be contacted ahead of time, much like giving the inspiration.  Then greeters will stand at the front door of the club to welcome and direct people to the meeting. This is a great way to pay homage to your fellow members and friends.  Easy peasy!

This week: Li Liu
Next week: Heather Dawson
