DID YOU MISS LAST WEEK'S MEETING? HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY'S DECONSTRUCTION PROGRAM

Another great idea from Habitat - their team will do your home improvement demo!  Are you remodeling a kitchen or other parts of your home? The deconstruction team will carefully remove cabinets, appliances and other items; which are then resold at their Habitat ReStores.  They are also used to help build homes for low-income families. And you get a tax write-off for the items' value!

Larry McLaughlin is a local Rotarian and a volunteer for Habitat.  He's on the Electrical Team.  By having licensed volunteers, Habitat can build an additional 7 houses a year.
Corey Biechele is the Deconstruction Manager for Habitat.  A RYLA alum, his passion for service has continued with a full time position at Habitat.

NEW MEMBER - WELCOME NANCY ARKINS!
Nancy Arkins was inducted last week and will be mentored by Connie Golas.  Nancy was an RN for 25 years and then joined Eli Lilly, the pharmaceutical company, for 18 years.  Our RN classification keeps growing, what with Connie Golas and Elaine Calderbank. I'll bet Project Cure is in her future!

THANKS TO CINDY BEGLEY FOR PRESIDING OVER THE MEETING WHILE JAN'S ON VACATION!

INSPIRATION:  Gary Dani

50/50 WINNER: Li Liu

GREETER:  What?  No greeter?  Better sign up with Bob Walsh!

WHAT'S ON THE PROGRAM AT THIS WEEK'S MEETING??
Debby Doig will launch year 11 of our outstanding Gala!  How can we outdo last year?  I'm pretty sure she's going to let you know!

SEDALIA ELEMENTARY NEWS - NEWS ABOUT OUR ADOPTED SCHOOL!
Two things are coming up for our newly adopted school:
1.  Our HRRC members will have an opportunity to sign up to bring breakfast treats on Wednesday, May 3rd, for the teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week.
2.  We're getting ready to wrap up the Rotary Readers program for this school year with a pizza party for the kids on Tuesday, May 16.  Let Iris Price know if you'd like to attend and interact with the kids!

YOUR INSPIRATIONS WILL INSPIRE OTHERS! SIGN UP NOW!
A lovely part of our weekly meetings is hearing what motivates our fellow members as they ring in the meeting with their inspirational moment.  We broadened the standard meeting fare from an invocation to an inspiration a few years back to cast a wider net.  This is a tradition Tim Sparks has driven for a few years.  But Tim's not a minister, therefore needs your help!  When they pass the clipboard, sign up to do the inspiration.  Club members love it - but club members gotta DO it!

Don't know how?  Look something up on the internet, in your library, from something you've heard.  Do you have a creed? Use that. A favorite quote?  Use that.  Afraid to speak in front of a crowd? Look at it this way - you're just talking to your friends.  Think you can't be heard?  Use a mike, it's right there! And it just takes a few minutes out of your week.  So help a guy out and sign up with Tim to deliver the inspiration, and you just might inspire yourself!

MOUNTAIN VISTA ROTARACT UPDATE

Interact is Rotary International's service club for young people ages 12 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting.

Hello Rotary Friends,

Thank you for your incredible, ongoing support of our club here at Mountain Vista, we are, as always, so thankful for everything you've helped our club accomplish!  We are excited to continue our partnership throughout the upcoming months.

These are the events we were involved with for the month of February 2017:

February 2, Peaceful Schools - We visited our second grade classes at Summit View Elementary.  We read interesting stories and played some games.  This program is centered around the four awesome questions, and is a great way for us to create a better environment in their classrooms.

February 2, Screenagers Movie Night- Interact members volunteered at the showing of the movie Screenagers, which is intended to promote digital safety and parental controls, a big issue in our Highlands Ranch community.  This was a great learning experience for everyone involved!

February 11, Bessie's Hope Visit - We visited with residents from a local memory care home, and had lots of fun doing Valentine's Day themed activities with them.  As always, we were joined by our wonderful middle school club members, which are gaining great leadership skills at this event.

February 14, Valentine's Day Candy Distribution – Also for Valentine's Day, Interact passed out candy to our fellow students at the High School to spread the word about Interact and to start everyone's day off in a positive way!

February 16, Project CURE - We sorted medical supplies to benefit healthcare in third world countries.  This is an amazing event that helps Interact Club to have a global outreach, and we have so much fun getting to know our local Rotarians!

Thank you again for all your ongoing support of our club!

MVHS Interact Secretary,

Sydney Murphy
