IFCS PUTTIN’ WITH A PURPOSE…TO END HUNGER. YOU CAN DO IT!
By Connie Golas
Yay – it’s summertime! Everyone is busy with vacations and visitors and summer concerts and picnics and all kinds of activity. It’s a great time of year!
But it can be extremely challenging for the working poor. Kids out of school means extra daycare and extra food, as there are no more school lunches to help feed hungry, growing children. Single parents and families turn to local food banks, as they need so much more help during the summer months.
IFCS strives to meet that need in many ways. But just when the need increases, food bank donations drop. That’s why Puttin’ with a Purpose was created. Every year this event helps refill their Food Bank, ensuring it is stocked and at the ready.
Our foundation has been a major sponsor of this event for years, because our club members BELIEVE in this cause. The foundation has donated $2500 to this…therefore, you CAN play and aren’t responsible for the $200 entrance fee. That said, feel free to bring food donations (lots & lots!) and you can also contribute financially as much as you want – by writing a check to the HR Rotary Foundation.
Puttin’ for a Purpose will be held on Saturday, June 24, 7:30 am at Colorado Journey putt putt course on Belleview & Windemere. Check in and continental breakfast will begin at 7:30 am with a shotgun start at 8:15. We’ve already got 2 teams started, but they’re 5 person teams so we need 4 more people to complete them.
Come on peeps – we need to fill our teams. Heck even form a third so we can hold on to our championship! It’s an easy, fun way to do good for many. And it only takes 2 ½ - 3 hours, so sign up – it’s a win win for all!
Contact Elizabeth Kringel or Connie Golas to sign up no later than Thursday, June 22.
CLUB HONORED BY WARRIOR BONFIRE
Mike Foss is the President of the Warrior Bonfire Program, and was previously on the Board of Directors. Mike is a retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel, Engineer. He was at the meeting last week and presented us with a certififcate of appreciation for our donation to the program.
Mike talked about the recent trip to Grand Lake with 6 Purple Heart recipients. They met up with a 92 year old WW2 vet who told the new vets about how he dealt with what he saw during the war. His words resonated with the soldiers, one in particular who was struggling. There wasn't a dry eye in the house as Mike explained this.
FAST TALKER FACTORS INTO GALA PLANS
Debby Doig introduced our new auctioneer for the 2017, Bryce Elemond. Bryce travels in an elite crowd. He once auctioned at an event for Freedom Service Dogs where he worked right next to Eric Decker! We'll expect a lot from Bryce, who pledged to raise as much $$$$$ as possible for our Gala.
YOUR VOLUNTEER HOURS ARE A VALUABLE COMMODITY!
Our hours of volunteerism are recorded and sent on to National - building the reputation of not only our club, but Rotary as a whole. So when you do something for Rotary, document it record it and text the info on to Elizabeth Kringel at 970.799.4321.
IFCS FOOD DRIVE IS HERE - PLEASE BRING IN FOOD, AND LOTS OF IT!
Here's Connie with a huge donation. Don't be left out, bring in canned or boxed goods to refill the food bank shelves! Summer is especially hard on families in need, what with the kids home all day. Let's make sure they have full stomachs by bringing in food to each meeting in June!
