DID YOU MISS LAST WEEK'S MEETING: HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED

WE MET THE PEACE CORPS VOLUNTEER FROM THE COSTA RICA TRIP
Phil served in the Peace Corps in Costa from March 2014 to June 2016 teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) volunteer for Peace.  He worked with our International Service group who went to Costa Rica this winter.

As a volunteer, he taught English at Jorge Volio Jimenez high school in La Lucha de Sabalito, angricultural community approximately 3 km north of the Costa Rica/Panama border. His role wasn't exclusive to children, he also taught a community English class and exercise class; facilitated the donation of over 1,000 books to local elementary schools (all thanks to Rotary!); and led teacher training workshops. He is very proud of the “JumpStart” English camp project, a month long English camp for students with no prior English exposure that focuses on intense English education and prepares incoming freshmen for high school.

Bill Simmermon, leader of HR Rotary team in Costa Rica and chair of our International Services Committee had nothing but respect for Phil.  "As the Peace Corps Volunteer in this region of Costa Rica, Phil's relations with the schools and the administrators enabled him to identify the need for books.   With help from the Give A Book Foundation, our club was able to deliver this books directly to the schools, present them to the kids, and ignite an interest to read."

WE'VE GOT RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE DOWN!
Summertime and the livin' is easy!  Our trusty chefs prepared their first evening meal last week at the Aurora house. Connie, Arthur, Jan & Tom, Tracie & daughters Sara & Mia, Natasha and Marin & daughter Barrett served around 70 people. Summer fare was the order of the day, as they grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, watermelon, chips and ice cream bars.

LISTEN UP - NEW PLAN FOR CLUB MEETINGS

We've had and are planning on some great upcoming programs.  that, combined with announcements, is pushing our club meetings right up against our 1:30 pm end time. President Jan is a huge proponent of Happy Bucks as well, as it helps us learn more about what's going on in our members lives.  We're looking for ways to tighten up the meeting timeline.  SO...

If you have an announcement where you want to speak at the podium, we're asking you to sit at the lunch table to the right of the podium.  That way, you can pop right up, talk, and get back to your seat in less time.  And as an added benefit, you'll sit with and get to know different people!

If you still want to play, call Connie Golas, 303-875-5666, or Elizabeth Kringel at 970-799-4321.

Carolyn Bradish is overseeing this project and is in need for school supplies and $25 gift cards for shoes and clothes, then helpers to pack them up for delivery to the two organizations.

ROTARY PROFILES:
WHO IS MARION TRUMMER?

WHERE FROM/COLLEGE
I was born in Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin. I am a big Packer fan, So, yes, I am a “cheese head” - I have two of them!  One even has the cut out in the top for your can of beer.  I must admit that when the Pack plays the Broncos, I root for the Packers.

CAREER
I owned a travel agency in Highlands Ranch for over 25 years. In fact, I was the second business to open in the Ranch. What fun years those were.  I met many wonderful people and was able to travel to many places all over the world.  Although I loved the adventure, the food, the strange sights and sounds and smells, I loved meeting the people…. Going off the grid into neighborhoods and into local parks.  It’s fun to get on public transportation and just randomly get off at a stop to see what you can find.

FAVORITE VACATION SITE
Do I have a favorite spot?  Some stand out because they are different, i.e.  Safari in Africa or climbing the Great Wall of China or riding a camel to the pyramids in Egypt.  But I would say perhaps Paris is one of the favorites. That could be because I was able to meet many of the locals there -- experience time with them in their homes and on their boats.

FAMILY
Family has always been important to me.  I have 4 children, two of each, 8 grandchildren, four of each and 5 greats, 4-1 girls rock!  My home has an open door policy and I often have someone living with me for a while.  Works out great when the lawn needs to be mowed or the snow shoveled.

HOBBIES
My hobbies?  Number one -- people.  I love knowing what they like and what makes them tick.   I have worked for 8 years with the RYLA program and often have some of the college kids stop in for a meal or for a few days.  It keeps me young.  I have also worked with the Interactors, hosted GSE students and helped out with the exchange students.  As you can see, young people ---- our country’s future---- are important to me.

I also love to garden and read.  Getting outside, even if just a walk in the park is good for the soul.

Perhaps Marion had a weekend job in college at a beer garden in Green Bay?

Marion quietly works behind the scenes on so many Rotary projects.  Her biggest commitment is RYLA, which she has worked on for 8 years.  But she is ready and willing to get 'er done.  Whether it's at the District Conference or going all the way to Costa Rica, you'll find Marion at work and at play!
