Satellite Club of Highlands Ranch Rotary

Meetings are on 1st and 3rd Wednesday mornings at 7:15 A.M. at The Children’s Hospital (470 and Lucent) at 1811 Plaza Dr., Highlands Ranch, CO.
in the Tennessee Room. About $7 for Continental Breakfast. Childrens hospital puts on a wonderful spread for us with pastries, scones, a huge fruit platter and 2 kinds of juices!!! We can change the menu if we like and will probably do from time to time. You should come visit us and have a warm scone.

Good for a make up or for our friends and acquaintances that would appreciate a Rotary Club with a morning meeting time.  If you plan to attend, please let Ann Mather at 303-570-9838 (Annmather@aol.com) or Linda Blackstone at 303-992-5625  know the day before.

ROTARY READERS PROGRAM IN FULL SWING!
Our new literacy program, Rotary Readers, is in its first month.  Many thanks to Iris
Price and Judy Rooney as our first volunteers!  Here’s what they had to say:

Iris: Volunteering for Rotary Readers has been such a fun experience!  The kids are
adorable and the teachers are so organized and appreciative that it has been a true
joy.  I will definitely do it again!
Judy:  First graders are so cute and so much fun to teach.  I would not be surprised to
see people fighting to do this service project.  An hour on Mondays with first-grade
students is a great way to start the week.
We’re so pleased at the collaboration between Bear Canyon first grade teachers,
principal and our committee.  They’ve been incredibly proactive in providing us with
time, content, training and eventually measurement once there is data to collect.
The teachers felt continuity is key to getting students comfortable with the program. So
the plan is that we’ll have teams of two go in once a week in one month increments.
The first week you’ll get there 15 minutes early for a quick training on the reading skill
for the month. At month’s end, your session is over.  Here are the particulars:
DAY/TIME:  Mondays from 11:15 to 12:15, except for the first week when you’ll go in
early for training.
BACKGROUND CHECK: The school does their own background check, so we aren’t
going to put our members through a second one done by Rotary.
NO BAGS! The district has asked volunteers to leave handbags & backpacks in the car.
Just use pockets for your wallet, glasses, etc. that you’ll need in teaching.
NEWS UPDATE:  John and Evelyn Coie have volunteered for April!  Thanks guys!  Now
we just need 2 more people for May and we have the summer off to tweak the program.
Email sueannebramley@yahoo.com if you want to take a turn in May!
Joe Miklosi, Director of Government Relations for Project C.U.R.E, spoke at the March 12 meeting about the expanded reach of the organization through new programs and thanked the club for their continued support.
