DID YOU MISS LAST WEEK’S MEETING?  HERE’S WHAT HAPPENED:

Student of the month:
ERICA VOSSEN

Our students have so much family and school support!

Ericka is a senior at Valor and already has been accepted at Notre Dame, considering chemical engineering.  Her parents, Jake and Pam Vossen joined our meeting, along with her math teacher, Gabe Anderson.  Erica is one of Valor’s top cademic students with a 4.0 unweighted GPA.  She has received numerous academic awards including the Humanities Student of the Year Award and multiple Valor department Excellence Awards.  Erica is the captain of the Valor Varsity Dance Team and led the team to a first place finish in league completion, now on to nationals in Florida.   Erica is very active in community service at her school and in her church, logging in a whopping 180 hours.  She has choreographed and instructed numerous youth dance clinics, helped organize school supply drives for Fresh Harvest Food Bank and tutored peers in math and science.  The club members enjoyed hearing Erica tell about her trip last summer to Georgia where she worked with Habitat for Humanity and a low income housing project.

D.A. GEORGE BRAUCHLER, THEATER SHOOTING PART 2
George was back to finish his presentation.  He talked about NGRI, not guilty by reason of insanity, the only option open to the Holmes defense.  But that put the burden on his team to disprove. He discussed how they went about it.  He was also highly complementary in his remarks regarding the Aurora Police and Firefighters, who he called heros.

OTHER NEWS THAT'S FIT TO PRINT

A MESSAGE FROM TOM HAVENS, OUR DEPARTING PRESIDENT
It has been a pleasure to work and play alongside each of you this past few years.  It has been an honor to participate in the leadership of such a dedicated and driven family.

This year’s focus is to “Be a Gift to the World”.  Rotary has facilitated each of us in realizing our potential of service above self – both as individuals and as a family.  We have served together.  We have labored together.  We have wept together.  We have laughed together.  We have loved together.

As I exit this location I find comfort that such a loving and motivated member is stepping in to lead this organization, Jan Seleinfreund.  Come alongside her and move forward together.  That’s what family does.

Each of you is made with unique desires and talents – use them to serve others in Rotary and all areas of your life. I thank God that He has blessed this world through Rotary and pray that Rotary will always honor Him.
