Megan Mitchell, a senior at ThunderRidge High School, was recognized as an Outstanding Student at the October 29th Rotary Luncheon.  Her parents, Tim and Anja Mitchell, joined her at the luncheon meeting.  Megan succeeds academically with a GPA of 4.19 and is ranked 9th in her class.  She intends to apply to Vanderbilt University for her future education and intends to study biology.  Megan desires to be a veterinarian.  To help her prepare for this vocation she has been shadowing a local veterinarian even assisting and observing surgery.  Megan also volunteers at the Denver Dumb Friend League.  She did a great job informing the members about her involvement at this non-profit and how it is making a difference in her life.  Megan has relative in Germany and is able to spend some summer weeks visiting and exploring other cities and countries of Europe with her family.
Joe Sabah and Debra Johnson were the guest speakers on October 29.  Joe shared his journey from what he thought was good health, to experiencing a stroke and his path to recovery.  He talked about the 3 keys to recognize stroke symptoms, "Have Someone "SAS" You.  Smile, Arms, Sentence.  Joe is a member of the National Speakers Association and was the founding president of the Colorado Speakers Association. He is the co-author of the book "How to get the job you really want and get employers to call you". He stated that he has been a guest on 723 Radio Talk Shows across America.
Hello Rotary Friends,

Thank you so much for your continuing support and guidance of our Interact Club here at Mountain Vista High School. We are so proud of all we have accomplished thus far and are excited to see all that amazing things this year has yet to bring!

These are the events we were involved with for the month of October 2015:

October 1, Peaceful Schools Visit- we read to 1st and 3rd graders to integrate lessons of kindness and understanding into their classrooms

October 22, Trick or Treat Street Pre-Decorating- we began preparations for Mountain Vista's annual Trick or Treat Street by planning our decorations and creating some superhero characters to later hang up

October 24, Interfaith Food Drive: we partnered with our Mountain Ridge Middle School Interact Club  in holding a food drive outside of local King Soopers and shelving the collected food and toiletries at Interfaith Community Services in Englewood.

October 28, Trick or Treat Street: we decorated the walls of Mountain Vista High School and handed out candy to young kids so they could trick or treat in a safer environment

October 31, Bessie's Hope Visit: we did Halloween themed crafts and activities with residents at Brookdale, a local Alzheimer's and Dementia care facility, to bring joy to lonely elders
Thanks again for all your overwhelming support of our club!

MVHS Interact Secretary,
Hannah Murphy

“Kindness is an inner desire
that makes us want to do good things
even if we do not get anything in return.
It is the joy of our life to do them.
When we do good things from this inner desire,
there is kindness in everything we think,
say, want and do.”
~ Emanuel Swedenborg ~
