This year, we're also holding a new element: The MIX & MINGLE.  Several of the committee chairs will be at separate tables, discussing their plans and where you can fit in for your volunteer hours.  Do you want to know upcoming plans for the next Costa Rica visit?  Or more about Rotary Readers?  Well this is your chance! So mark your calendars for an interesting and fun club assembly

OTHER NEWS THAT'S FIT TO PRINT

JOHN HEWKO VISIT

Denver was honored to have John Hewko, RI General Secretary and CEO of Rotary International, present at 2 clubs on Oct. 6.  Bill Simmermon attended the presentation at the SE Club where he rubbed elbows with several past district governors, along with a former VP of Rotary International.

His talk focused on:

 1.   Efforts to end polio
 2.   The RI Foundation
 3.   Membership

MEETING LOCATION CHANGE ON NOV. 3 - UPDATED INFO!
Because of the Lone Tree Golf Club annual craft sale, we won't be meeting there on Nov. 3.  Instead, our meeting will be held at the Mellow Mushroom at 6271 Park Meadows Drive from 11:30 to 1:30PM on Thursday, Nov. 3rd. We have exclusive use of the patio area.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE
By Connie Golas

Next week is the final opportunity to sign up for the Integrated Family & Community Services (IFCS) Thanksgiving Basket Assembly on Wednesday, Nov.16th at 5:30PM. They need 6 people who are each able to lift 25 lbs. The sign up sheet will be at the Community Service Committee table at the Club Assembly next Thursday. This is a very special well-organized community effort to assemble Thanksgiving Baskets for over 500 families in the Denver metro area.

This is a PLEA for VOLUNTEERS to paint again at Douglas/Elbert Task Force. We need a minimum of 4, preferably 5, volunteers for Monday & Tuesday, Nov 14 & 15, from 4:00PM till 8:00PM (earlier if we have 5 volunteers) to finish painting the front lobby, hallway and restrooms. Come with any paint brushes, ladders or other equipment that can be useful for the project.

AND SPEAKING OF VOLUNTEER COMMITMENTS...

We are fortunate to have a wonderful membership, so willing to give of their time.  That said, it is  important to KEEP YOUR COMMITMENTS!!   This is an issue for several committees. We need volunteers to keep their commitment. If you suddenly have to cancel, please find a replacement. It's a disservice to the team not to show up. These commitments are how we plan the time activities take and if you don't show up, all other team members have to spend another hour or more to make up for those who are no shows. Or, in the case of Rotary Readers, disrupts the flow tremendously, leaving a team of kids without an instructor. Please, don't just not show up.  It leaves the organizer in a pickle.

BTW, if you haven't volunteered for an outside activity, you're really missing out.  It's a great way to meet more members while helping the community at the same time.  So take a look at spending time with Rotary Readers, Douglas/Elbert Task Force painting, Project Cure, to name a few.  Packing Thanksgiving baskets at IFCS is a wonder to behold - it's orchestrated to perfection!  So step out of your comfort zone and join fellow Rotarians in these endeavors - we promise you'll have a blast!

We plan to add a "substitute" position to our sign-up sheets to help with this issue. That will provide a pool of people who can sub if you really must cancel.

HERE'S ANOTHER GREAT WAY TO MEET MEMBERS - THE FRIENDSHIP DINNERS!
Life of the party, Mr. Steve Miller himself, Social Chairman, will be passing around host sign up sheets for the November friendship dinners.  We know so many of you are excellent hosts & hostesses, so this is your chance to entertain club members.  Don't worry, they are pot luck, so you don't have to do all the cooking.  Just come up with a theme,  then assign your guests to bring an item to share and a bottle of adult beverage!  Such a great way to meet other members, so don't be shy - we want to come on over for a fun night!
Get in touch with your inner hostess by signing up now for a friendship dinner!
