OTHER NEWS THAT'S FIT TO PRINT HR ROTARY A HUGE WINNER AT THE WOMEN'S ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS!Mary Kay presented the International Service to Others award to Connie Golas. The Innovation award went to Debby Doig | Here, Jan Keyton received the Mentoring Women Award and Marion the Unsung Hero award. Patricia Fiske from the Castle Pines club received the Leadership award. All these were presented by Mike Dunkel, founder and president of the Cherry Creek Valley club | Over 20 HR Rotary members watched as four of our fellow club members received the newest prestigious Rotary award, Women of Achievement. Parker's Cherry Creek Valley club started this program last year, to honor the women of Douglas Country. In celebration the 30th anniversary of women in Rotary, the club changed it up this year - recognizing women of Douglas County Rotary. Held at our favorite banquet place, the Marriott South, they drew a large crowd. In addition to the awards, they talked about Dr. Sylvia Whitlock, the first club president. She was profiled in the April 25 issue of the Wheel. Mary Kay was one of 3 keynotes. She made some interesting observations. In District 5450, 1/3 of the membership are women; 44% of the club presidents are female and 25% or our District Governors in the past 16 years have been women. So the Supreme Court decision of 1987 has definitely altered the view of Rotary, adding a strong, vibrant demographic - yes, the feminine mystique! | |
