DID YOU MISS LAST WEEK'S MEETING?  HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED

HEATHER BERRY TALKED ABOUT HER ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AWARD

Heather takes on the White House!
AP Science students talked about the outdoor classroom

Highlands Ranch High School science teacher, Heather Berry discussed her approach to teaching AP environmental science.  having students select a semester-long project, they learn how to get funding, are required to reach out to the community to help with the project, then taking it to completion. Three of her students discussed next steps on the outdoor classroom and did one of the requirements, asked the club for funding - good lesson! She briefly discussed her visit to the White House where she was honored for her work by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency  and the White House Council on Environmental Quality.

GREETER:  Lee Mulberry

INSPIRATION:  Carolyn Bradish

50/50 WINNER: Reen Gottron

WHAT'S ON THE PROGRAM AT THIS WEEK'S MEETING??
SALUD TO COSTA RICA!
Marion Trummer and Natasha Nola will talk about their recent trip, delivering wheel chairs to Costa Rica.

OTHER NEWS THAT'S FIT TO PRINT

A happy group of Rotarians
Kurt Kaczor, executive director

Our logo was on the screen all evening!
D/E TASK FORCE FIRST FUNDRAISER PRESENTING SPONSOR: YOU GUESSED IT, RANCH ROTARY!
Our foundation is pleased to have been the presenting sponsor at the Task Force's first fundraiser. Last Friday evening, 80-100 people gathered at Cielio, the new event venue in Castle Pines. There was food, a photo booth and fun silent auction items followed by a live auction of trips, art and other cool items.  I tried to get dinner at the Castle Rock Firehouse, but it went for upwards of $130!

One different thing I saw was the way they handled the wine donations, of which there were a lot.  They put all the bottles on a table with a number. For $25, you got a draw. The cork drawn had a number and that’s how you knew which bottle you’d be taking home.  Everyone in our party bought at least 1 bottle, so it was an easy peasey way to bid and get!

The D/E Task Force powers that be were so thankful to the Club for the sponsorship and we were all too happy to do so!

GET YOUR CHRISTMAS PARTY ON!

Are you ready for the club's annual holiday party? Don you now your gay apparel on Thursday, Dec. 15 and get on up to the Sundial House, 10989 Sundial Rim Rd, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126. Thanks to the Giebels', we'll be partying down at Backcountry, one of the premiere sites in the Ranch!

Everyone should have already signed up to bring an appetizer, side or dessert.  The club will provide ham and turkey as well as the bar. There may even be a few surprises!  Be sure to check in with Steve Miller if you have any questions or haven't yet signed up to bring a dish.

Don't miss this annual event - the Sundial House is lovely, the views incredible and the people are the greatest! What better way to spend an evening?

AND THE PARTYING ISN'T OVER YET - CLUB WHITE ELEPHANT!

If you read ahead in the calendar, you'll notice that we're dark on Dec. 22 in preparation for the big day.  But we have scheduled a meeting for the next week, Dec. 29.  The week between Christmas and New Year is always a bit ho hum - the visitors, the big meals, the gifts are all over and done with.  So leave it to Rotary to put a bit of fun in the mid week! There is no program, but a White Elephant gift exchange.

A white elephant is a joke gift.  Maybe something you got for Christmas that just doesn't appeal to you, but might to someone else.  So get down in that basement and look for something funny, something that might tickle the fancy of a member you know, or something you just want to get rid of.  Wrap it up in a beautiful way and throw it out there for someone else to enjoy!

Getting more stuff...what a great way to ring in the New Year!
