The Wheel Spinner for December 19, 2024

As the year ends, our thoughts turn graciously to all of you who made our club so special, and we remember fondly those we have lost in 2024.
MEETING NOTES FROM LUNCH AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

This is a brief Wheel Spinner as we still have to help Santa wrap the final gifts and Mrs. Claus is still baking cookies to take to our friends who will also be lighting a Menorah.

Our greeter last week was Steve Miller.

Nancy Barton read her final original poem of the year, "The Greatest Gift" to offer her best holiday wishes.

We welcomed a new member, Judy Carlson, to the club. President Arthur noted Shrin and Reen were back from vacation. DG Tamie was with us for lunch. Bill Simmermon was also back and will share about the trip to Ghana in a future meeting! Welcome to Joe Musco and Judy Carlson. We also had Joan Tildon and Jim Brooks visiting from the Summit Club. We had our student of the month, Auburne Mauger from STEM school with us. (She may have the highest GPA we had selected with a whopping 4.6 weighted!) Auburne is an accomplished science student who has already had a peer reviewed article published! Finally, we were happy to see our RI Exchange Student, Filippo, again and we had Marion Trummer's great grandaughter in attendance.

Our program last week was a presentation from Judy Jordan from the Bridge Program with a heartwarming introduction from Terre Cone who noted that the Program has helped their family over the years. Our club also presented the Bridge Program with a check from the Foundation for $1,000. The Bridge Program has three locations and serves students in High School who are in transition to adulthood and who have special needs. In some cases it is occupational and "real-world" training for work, or internships, and for some it is focused on more specific life skills, training, and decision making to help them in the independent or semi-independent lives, and for some who will always need assistance throughout their lives, it is other forms of behavioral and emotional preparation. They are an invaluable service for these students and for their families and they do excellent and impactful work in the community.

After the program, we had a presentation of the Jim Brook Tireless Rotarian of the Year Award from the members of the Summit Club to our own Marion Trummer. Marion's life of service in Rotary has been extraordinary and serves to be an example for all of us of how one's service evolves over the years as our lives change. Marion is a gracious and generous member who has specifically done work with youth programs, veteran programs, literacy programs in Costa Rica, and many, many other things over her 35+ years in Rotary. Thank you, Marion, for all you do.

"Big" John Kennett presented Robin (and Steve) Aguilar with their Paul Harris +1 pin. Thank you, Robin, for your support of RI and Polio Plus.

Family of Rotary:
President Arthur let us know that Peter Ulrich will be transferring to the Flyin' B Club at Wind Crest; we will miss seeing him so often but are happy he has found time still for Rotary.

Bob Larson is recovering and we hope to see him soon.

Please keep these people in your thoughts and check on them or their spouse/partner during these holiday weeks. Every thought matters and no good dead is too small, friends.
