OTHER NEWS THAT'S FIT TO PRINT
FRIENDSHIP DINNERS
What are friendship dinners? It’s a chance for new and old members alike to meet up and get to get to know each other better. Our wonderful hosts open their homes for this to happen outside the confines of the Thursday meeting. Needless to say, we don’t want all the responsibility to fall on the hosts, so everyone brings both food and drink. This can take on the look of a true pot luck or a sit down or a buffet/cocktail party, a Mexican party or, in the case of one host, Carolyn Bradish, a soup party!
So get signed up, sheets will go around again at Thursday’s meeting. Then plan on sharing a great evening with either Natasha Nola or Marion Trummer on Saturday, Feb. 6 or Carolyn or Arthur Cone on Saturday, Feb. 20.
NIBBLES & SIPS HONORS HR ROTARY!
You may have heard Nibbles & Sips thrown around during meeting announcements. Here’s the skinny – it’s a fundraising event sponsored by one of our community outreach groups, IFCS, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 27. But the big news is that our club is their 2016 Honoree! This is a huge honor for our club, as we’ve put in hundreds of volunteer hours, donated a lot of money, time and resources, and have had several members sit on their board. IFCS recently changed their name from Interfaith Community Taskforce to Integrated Family Community Services.
HR ROTARY GOES INTERNATIONAL! DESTINATION COSTA RICA!
By Bill Simmermon, chair, International Service Committee
Beautiful country for a volunteer trip!
Over a year ago the Int'l Service Committee decided to take on a project where we could have club members’ travel to a site and roll up our sleeves. After reviewing projects in Africa, Asia, South and Central America, we decided on the Costa Rican Book project in the land of the rich coast or Costa Rica.
There were several reasons we decided on the Costa Rican book project. We wanted to support the newly formed partnership between RI and Peace Corps Volunteers (PCV). Several of the PCV are from Colorado and we wanted support our local Coloradans. We already had a connection and relationship with the Give A Book Foundation (Carl Dickerson), as Sue Fox and Denver Rotary have supported this service project. And literacy is one of the six areas of focus for RI.
Another considerations were that several committee members were interested in touring the country, in addition to doing the service project.
MORE INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL OPPORTUNITIES – A ROTARY CRUISE!
Our mistress of travel, none other than Jan Kucharski, is planning the next offering…A cruise to Belize City, with ports of call along the way. More on that to come on Thursday when Jane will present the particulars. Watch your email for more info as well.
If you’re interested, you’ll need to put down a $200 balcony cabin deposit by Feb. 11.
RI PRESIDENT’S DINNER & POLIO FUNDRAISER A HUGE SUCCESS!
Ravi Ravindran attended the event
Mary Kay Hasz, HR Rotarian and District Governor hosted the President’s Dinner on January 9. We were honored to have not only Mary Kay, and a representative from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, but also RI President K.R. “Ravi” Ravindran, whose presentation was “Be a Gift to the World”. The event raised over $30K for polio!
The event was sold out with over 500 in attendance, our club hosting 3 tables and the Sunrise Club also had a table, making our showing 40 strong!

2016 BRIGHT FUTURES GALA, Saturday, October 8, 2016
By Debby Doig, Gala Chair
The 2015 Bright Futures Gala netted our Foundation just over $55,000! The organizations and projects we collectively support, and passionately believe it, will indeed benefit from the generosity of all who participated. A big Thank You from your Gala Chair -- we now set our sights for our next big event!
LEND A HAND TO DOUG & DEBBY
