DID YOU MISS LAST WEEK'S MEETING?  HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED

Debby Doig discussed the BRIGHT FUTURES GALA coming up on Saturday, October 8

WHAT'S ON THE PROGRAM AT THIS WEEK'S MEETING??

~ Bill Simmermon and the International Service committee will focus on the Jumpstart English summer camps coordinated by our Peace Corps Volunteers.  Phil Nordeck, former PCV Phil Nordeck (who led our team earlier this year) will explain how these camps work and what support they need. This is a must see for people considering the upcoming volunteer trip.

AND SPEAKING OF THE PEACE CORPS

Bob Martin talked about the passion his late wife, Sue Fox, had for the Peace Corps.  She was instrumental in building the relationship between Denver area Rotary clubs and the Corps throughout her career and her tenure as Denver Club president.  The memorial funds raised in her honor will be presented to that organization.

OTHER NEWS THAT'S FIT TO PRINT

GREAT GALA!  By Marion Trummer

The Gala is almost here.  The silent auction items are coming in and there will be lots to choose from.

It’s not too long before you will be looking for items for that special person for holiday or birthday gifts.  Perhaps you are looking for a stunning piece of jewelry to complete a new outfit.  The silent auction is the place to go.  No parking worries, no mall crowds, no going from store to store.  The answer is right at your finger tips.  You can shop with your smart phone in one hand and a drink in the other.  How easy is that?

For that special gal, look for jewelry.  There are over 10 items to pick from in all price ranges.  A set of dangling diamond earrings from Ben Bridge or a stunning silver necklace with a dark green stone, also from Ben Bridge are great items.  Perhaps a Swarovski necklace or bracelet is more your style.  We also have some beautiful costume jewelry up for bidding.

WHO IS THIS ILLUSTROUS GROUP?

Look at this amazing group!  What do they have in common?  They're all past and current club presidents!

Who wouldn't want to be part of this elite group?  Well now is your chance - except your term will be for one week, rather than 52!  Being club president for a week is one of the prizes you'll be bidding on at the BRIGHT FUTURES GALA on Saturday, October 8.  There are so many silent and live auction items that your head will be spinning with choices!

As Jan is so fond of saying, the Gala is where the money comes from to support Ronald McDonald house, Military, Community Service, International, Rotary Readers, Scholarships, Costa Rica Books, Peaceful schools, DETF, Best Buddies, the HR Garden, IFCS.  It generates over $50,000 for us every year.  This revenue is what the club depends on to fund the good works we perform every month, which is the reason we exist.  So come, bid, spend and have fun!

** CLUB ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 20 **
Due to a scheduling conflict at Lone Tree, we've decided to reschedule the club assembly.  Please make note.

AMENDMENT 69 DEBATE
Be sure to invite your friends to our first ever voter education debate.  On September 29, Colorado State Treasurer Walker Stapleton will debate single payor insurance with one of the authors of the legislation with Colorado Care.  It proposes to establish a single payer healthcare system supported by premiums collected from all Colorado residents based on income.  Since this amendment would impact all of us, the Rotary Club of Highlands Ranch wants attendees to thoroughly understand the pros and cons and are hosting a 'true' debate.  The purpose is to educate rather than encourage you one way or the other.
Walker Stapleton, Colorado State Treasurer, will argue against the amendment

CLUB FACTOID
Gotta love those King Soopers gift cards, happy bucks & 50:50 drawings - because of the revenue they generate, the club is able to hold the line on dues!  Keep spending & sharing!

MORE IDEAS ON MARKETING THE CLUB ON FACEBOOK FROM JOYCE FEUSTEL

Even if you are just an occasional user of Facebook, here are tips for ways you can help your Rotary Club have a stronger presence on Facebook.
  • Along with liking your club’s Facebook business page, write a review of the page. While in the page, click on the word “Reviews” on the left side of the page. Now you will have a chance to give up to a 5-star rating of the club by clicking on the appropriate number of stars. Doing that opens up a box for you to write a short narrative review of the club. When you have finished writing your review, click on “Done.”
  • Make a point to visit your club’s business page at least once or twice a month (more if possible). Look for posts that you think that your Facebook friends might be interested in, such as an event that your club is sponsoring.
  • To share the post to your Facebook personal page, click on the word “Share” below the post. Then click on the option that says “Share…” Type in a short introductory note about why you’re sharing this post on your Facebook page. Then click on Post. Now your Facebook friend might see this post.
