DID YOU MISS LAST WEEK'S MEETING? HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED
WE MET THE NEW DISTRICT GOVERNOR, BILL DOWNES
What a difference a greeter makes! Bill came down the stairs to meet one of our greeters. How nice to see a friendly face when you enter. To be that friendly face, sign up with Bob Walsh!
Bill introduced himself as a member of Mountain Foothills Club where his focus has been membership and fundraising. His career was in technology management and now commercial real estate.
As DG, Bill plans to focus on membership & continuity of management, leading district work like a business, a leaner organization. As to membership - how to attract younger members so we leave our legacy in capable hands.
He spoke at length on polio eradication - we're so close, just 3 countries have active cases. He discussed how eradication takes persistence. When asked what was next, once polio is gone, he said what we'll be left with is a strong, worldwide network to eradicate disease. What a concept! The work Rotary has put in on polio all these years will be transferred to another devastating disease - maybe zika, maybe MERS, maybe bird flu, the list goes on and on. How proud we should be of the work Rotary is involved in.
50/50 WINNER: Russell Hatten, Sunrise Club GREETERS: Bob Walsh and Ray Anderson INSPIRATION: Ray Anderson
Surprise! The club is hosting a tennis tournament on Friday, September 9 at the Coventry Clubhouse, 5011 W. Bowles Avenue, Littleton, CO 80123. Come join the fun - tennis will be from 5:00-7:00 pm. Cocktails will follow at Fred Waarner's home, also in Coventry.
Contact Steve Miller to participate in this fun event!
UNEXPECTED RYLA DONATION
Jan Keyton actually got 'a check in the mail'. She was very surprised to find a $450 check from DebbieHenry, a parent of one of this year’s YoungRYLA students. Debbie was so happy with the experience her daughter Carter had at camp that she wanted to pay back. So she sent the check to be used for one of next year's students. She is also submitting her name for membership in our club. Once again, our outreach has impressed a parent enough to want to join. Who else do we know that happened to? Yes, none other than Cindy Begley, President Elect!
DOUG DOIG MEMORIAL RECEPTION
Many friends and club members attended Doug's memorial and reception on Tuesday for a wonderful celebration of Doug's life...reminisces, stories, cheers and lots of hugs for Debby.
DONATIONS TO THE DOUG DOIG MEMORIAL FOUNDATION SHOULD BE MADE OUT TO THE HIGHLANDS RANCH ROTARY FOUNDATION
The wonderful reception hosted by Jan & Jerry gave Debby a chance to visit with friends
Good lookin' group - Gary Dani joined the Geibels, Bob Larson & Bob Martin
Now this is a cheers!
Gary Dani has been left out of the photo pages lately, so here he is again, joined by Neil, Jim & Bill!
When it comes to auction items, the sky is the limit! We have everything from sports memorabilia to art to jewelry to baskets in all shapes and sizes. We'd love to hear the backstory on items you've donated. Here is what the Bramleys' are planning.
Sue is fascinating in her fascinator hat. Is there a possibility that the hostess who buys this prize can pick her poison...or jello shot?
Jim uses color creatively!
HALF DAY HANDYMAN
Jim, being a builder, thought of what he might could donate that worked his strengths. Hence Half Day Handyman! That's right, you'll get half a day to have a licenced general contractor come over and fix whatever you need fixing, ideas on how to upgrade your bath, kitchen, deck, etc. And just maybe, you can wrestle this prize away from Judy Rooney, who has purchased it for the last 3 years!
TEA FOR TWO...OR SIX!
Confirmed tea party aficionado and former caterer, Sue Bramley, wants to share her passion. She'll cater & serve an afternoon tea for you and 5 friends. You pick the theme, attire (fascinators anyone?) and she'll bring the food, including cucumber sandwiches. Your friends will learn about the dainty presentation of afternoon tea and it's history.
Don't be shy - tell me what you're donating and why, so attendees appreciate a bit of your story!
DON'T FORGET TO BRING IN YOUR SILENT AUCTION ITEMS!
We still need baskets, wine and auction items. If you have a basket idea and don't want to put it together yourself, donate the dollar amount you want to spend, and Marion and Carolyn will make it for you! This week is "WINE PLEASE" week. Bring in bottles and bottles for the Gala!
