MISS LAST WEEK'S MEETING? HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED

We learned about new member, Paul Moots.  Haling from Kirksville, MO. Paul spent his career as an executive at Caterpillar. Managing a global team for years, Paul traveled the world extensively.  His area was mining shovels. And we thought Caterpillar only made farming equipment!  An engineer, Paul holds many patents on hydraulic products.

And how did he end up in Denver?  His kids, of course!  I hear this story more and more. Not to mention Denver is just a great place to live!  Paul now focuses his engineering talents on driving a golf ball...and his family (remind us of any other club members??).  He is looking forward to fulfilling his community service desires with Rotary.

BRIGHT FUTURES GALA UPDATE

Debby Doig gave us an update on the biggest event we have.  The gala is just 2 months away - make sure October 14 is on your calendar!  We're already well over $68K in sponsorships, and 15 of our sponsorships are from outside our Rotary family. This  means the fundraising burden does not fall solely on our members.

For all you newbies, the Gala is our major fundraising event of the year.  There are live and silent auctions, a plated dinner, entertainment and LOTS OF FUN!  Of course members solicit various gifts for the auctions.  So next time you're at the hairdresser, ask if they'd donate.  If you're getting your oil changed, talk to the manager about a few coupons.  Maybe you have a few items to contribute - well bring them in and our spot on team creative team of Carolyn Bradish and Marion Trummer will throw a basket together.  Or make your own basket and bring it in.40% of last year's auction dollars were garnered from non-club members and we're happy to see guests jump in with both feet in donating to our cause.  An enormous amount of work goes into this event and we are so lucky to have a committee who is on fire this year!

We heard from 2 Young RYLA attendees

INSPIRATION:  Sue Bramley
50/50 WINNER: Mary Kay Hasz

THIS WEEK'S PROGRAM:

LOTS GOING ON!
Come hear Phil & Elaine Calderbank and Diana Goldy's classification talks.  Like last week, all these new members are definitely worth getting to know better!  Also Rotary Readers is gearing up for the school year.  Iris Price will talk about how you can get involved in this very hands on volunteer opportunity!

GREAT GALA!
ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCED - SPINPHONY!

On top of all the fun you and your guests will have at the Bright Futures Gala on Oct. , we now know just who will entertain us! Spinphony is a cutting edge classical pop fusion group consisting of four virtuosic string players and a DJ.

Spinphony writes their own arrangements and originals in a style they call 'Pop Baroque'. While sticking to their classical roots by performing virtuosic classics like Vivaldi summer and Beethoven string quartets, Spinphony creates a fresh new take on the classics by mashing them up with rock and pop favorites such as Kashmir and Smooth Criminal and adding high energy orchestrated backing tracks from the DJ. They perform more in the style of a rock band than a traditional string quartet with choreographed dance moves and interaction with the audience. Spinphony's unique style and high energy performances have taken them across the US and Mexico performing for both public and private events.

Get in on the excitement of Spinphone by watching them on YouTube.  Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOtVP1aqbqw
