OUR LAST STUDENT - RYLIE WIENING
By Scott Davenport, Scholarship Chair
Rylie coined the nickname "Smiley Rylie" the very week she came home from the hospital; she ALWAYS has a smile on her face. She has a weighted GPA of 3.9130, taking many honors and AP classes. Rylie consistently balances academics with any other activity she is been involved in. During her first 2 years at RCHS, Rylie was a competitive dancer on the POMS squad, but decided she wanted to work outside of the home and put more energy into her youth group. She currently works at TJ Maxx, she has a passion for fashion and enjoys working with people. She has maintained this job as well as maintaining straight A’s for 8 months. Over the past summer, Rylie volunteered at a camp in Arizona, doing dishes, volunteering and watching babies, so that youth and young moms from across the US could explore their faith. Rylie loves being a peer counselor at school, and is a member of the Sources of Strength Club, where they focus on various aspects of mental health. Rylie is always reaching out to other kids in any way that she can. Rylie was accepted into her dream school, CSU, and is currently working on how to make it financially possible.

OTHER NEWS THAT'S FIT TO PRINT
HR ROTARY HAS ADOPTED A SCHOOL!
By Connie Golas, Chair, Community Service
HRRC has "adopted" Sedalia Elementary School and is committed to helping the PTO provide what is needed to enhance the experience of every student there. Over 50% of the students meet the requirement for the free lunch program. Our Rotary Readers volunteers have worked with first and second graders all this school year, helping them to learn to read.
The photos below were taken at Sedalia Elementary on Fri, Apr. 7th. Iris Price and I took a check from the Foundation for $500 to provide art supplies for the school. Left to right: Joan Gandy, President of the Sedalia Elementary PTO, Iris, Wendy Rodgers, the art teacher & myself. This will make a major difference for the rest of this school term and all of next year!
Debi Knapp is the Sustainability Teacher, shown collecting the eggs from the chickens which the children raise and care for. The money from the free range eggs provides the seeds for the vegetable garden which is planted and maintained by the kids. They hold a weekly mini "farmers market" with the veggies and fruit grown. That money pays for the feed for the chickens! It's a totally self-sustainable system which teaches so much to the children: sustainability, organic growing, team-work, problem solving, animal care and responsibility. There's a photo of the vegetable garden at the school, just waiting for the new season to begin!
ACTION ITEM!!!
Our HRRC members will have an opportunity to sign up to bring breakfast treats on Wednesday, May 3rd, for the teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week.

YOUR VOLUNTEER HOURS ARE A VALUABLE COMMODITY!
RI is always looking for ways to promote what the organization does. One way is keeping track of the thousands, perhaps millions, of hours members volunteer.
So when you submit your volunteer hours each month, you're helping to build the reputation of not only our club, but Rotary as a whole. Make a point that when you do something for Rotary, document it, record it and text your monthly hours on to Elizabeth Kringel at 970.799.4321.
ANOTHER VALUABLE COMMODITY - CLUB HONORS!
Our club is nominated for Colorado Community Media's annual 'Best of the Best'! So log into Facebook, go to our page, Rotary Club of Highlands Ranch, click on the VOTE graphic. It will take you to a sign in page where you'll enter your info, create a password, then into the site. Go to the community category, click on Local non-profit and vote for us! Just another chance to get publicity for the club!
AND FINALLY, ANOTHER COMMODITY - HR ROTARY HAS WINNERS!!

DISTRICT CONFERENCE & SYMPOSIUM STARTS APRIL 28
Joel Johnson reminds everyone to attend the environmental sustainability symposium on Friday, April 28 from 9:30-3:30 at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort.
If you haven't had a chance to check out the lineup for the District Conference in the latest district bulletin, here's the rundown on the speakers.
A new fundraising project at the Rotary Readers elementary school in Sedalia is underway! An office, guest house, play house, a tailgater - there are a thousand uses. So stop by for a tiny tour next time you're at Rotary Readers. Oh, and if you or any friends are in the market for a tiny house, you'll help them with their fundraiser!
Please join the Highlands Ranch Rotary Sunrise Club for our regular meetings. The meetings are the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 7:15 to 8:30 am at the south campus of Childrens Hospital at 1811 Plaza Dr. Highlands Ranch. We offer a delicious continental breakfast ($7.00 for members and guests). We also have wonderful speakers you will enjoy. This is a great opportunity for a make up meeting or for potential members that cannot attend noon meetings. If you plan to attend, please notify Paul Campbell (paulcamp64@gmail.com) or Joel Johnson (jsjohns46@yahoo.com) a day in advance. We look forward to seeing you!!!
