DID YOU MISS LAST WEEK'S MEETING?  HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED

CLIMB YOUR OWN EVEREST

Speaker Dr. Jon Kedrowski is one lucky man.  He's taken his passion for adventure mountaineering and made a living at it. Besides climbing all over the Colorado mountains, by the end of this year, he will have climbed on a continents.  His most remarkable ascents have been in Nepal.  He talked about his trips there, the good, the bad, the ugly.  An amazing individual! Then he took those experiences and applied them to life - how to be persistent, overcome trials and be remarkable.

Mountain Experience:
--500+Ascents of Colorado’s Fourteeners (Peaks +14,000’/4200m elevation)
--600+Ascents of Colorado’s 100-highest peaks (Peaks +13,000’/4000m)
--150 winter ascents and ski descents of the Fourteeners
--Climbed 58 named Colorado summits over 14,000 feet in 42 days

GREAT GALA!

The gala is on everyone's mind as we prepare for the October  date.  As you know, it takes a lot of time on the part of the committee to get this wonderful event put together.  This week we're featuring Marion Trummer & her committee.  They're asking you to bring in items for their wonderful baskets. There are a few ways you can do this.

1.  Create a great basket idea - game night, wine tasting, bakers basket, tea party to name a few - the sky is the limit! Buy all the stuff to bring your idea to life and give it to Marion, who will package it to market it.

2.  If you don't want to shop, create the idea, give the committee  money and they'll bring your basket idea to life by shopping for it, then packaging it.

3.  Don't want to do any of that?  Just give them money and they'll do the rest!

We can't say it enough - the Gala is our major fundraiser.  What we earn here is what funds all the work we do. So be generous, be inventive and bring your friends so they can participate in the fun and the giving.

MAY THE COURSE BE WITH YOU - ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
By Steve Miller

This year the golf tournament will be held at The Links golf course in Highlands Ranch on Friday, August 12th.  Why the Links? Because it is "fair to all concerned". Tee times will be between 1:00 pm and 1:45 pm. The cost for golf, which includes some prize money, is $66 per person.  We are going to have a buffet dinner afterwards, starting at approximately 5:30 pm.  The cost for the buffet will be approximately $15.00.  People can sign up for golf, the buffet, or both.  The deadline to sign up is July 21st.

BACK TO SCHOOL BACKPACK PROGRAM

School starts in less than a month!  This year, we're dividing our backpack program between both IFCS and Douglas Elbert Task Force. There are 2 ways to play:

IFCS:
Carolyn Bradish will be putting together 25 backpacks.  You can either provide her with a $25 gift card so children can get a new outfit - these will go in the backpacks along with the school supplies she has already purchased.  Or if you want to do the shopping with a grandchild, call Carolyn and she'll give you stats on a student so you can shop for them.  The Bramleys chose to do that - we got a 2nd grade girl who's favorite color is pink. Needless to say, our two granddaughters are all about picking out an outfit and writing a note to our student!!  Good way to get them to understand giving!

D/E TASK FORCE:
The Task Force wants financial support only. The club will provide a donation and you can too.  Just make your check payable to Highlands Ranch Rotary Foundation and they will write one check to Douglas/Elbert.
