MOUNTAIN RIDGE INTERACT NEWS
Hi! I am Kate Roscoe, an eighth grader at MRMS, who helps lead the Interact club. I would like to give you an update on our MRMS Interact Club accomplishments and service projects. First & foremost, we would all like to say thank you for all of your support and help.
This year we have over 100 enthusiastic, service-minded, caring members. This is the largest Interact Club at MRMS ever. We are providing numerous events to make sure each student gets an opportunity to feel the satisfaction of giving back. So far this year our projects have included:
Root beer Float Celebration: This was our kick off event to start our new year and welcome new members. We decided to take all the $1,770 raised and donate to the victims of Hurricane's Harvey and Irma. Thanks to Rotary for donating $500 on top of what we raised.
Brookdale visit: This was our first visit of the year to the Alzheimers & dementia facility. New this year, we'll also be visiting twice a month. We do all types of activities from singing and dancing to crafts and music. Each month Mountain Vista and our club switch off planning and leading the activities. For some of our members, Brookdale isn’t their type of activity so we are trying very hard to give a wide range of activities for members to participate. Earlier this month, we had very casual meeting where we got together to paint rocks with inspirational messages to put around he school. At this meething we also began to plan a Mountain Ridge Movie night. Oct. 28, our group will lead all the activities at Brookdale.
Other activities for October include a Food Drive/Food Bank on the 21st at King Soopers. We'll will take donations to the local food bank and stock their shelves full of food for their shoppers. That same day we will also do the 5K Walk for Wishes to support one of our Mountain Ridge students. Walk for Wishes is a nationwide Make-A-Wish® fundraiser that celebrates the thousands of wishes that have already been granted, while raising funds for future wishes.
In November we will participate in the Peanut Butter and Jelly plan where we will go to a local church to make PBJ sandwiches for the homeless. Afterwards our parents drive us around Downtown Denver to pass them out.
New this year, we're planning a Mountain Ridge movie night. where we'll sell concessions to raise money for an animal shelter of our choice.
There are so many great activities planned this year. We are all very excitied to be part of this great organization. Our club wouldn’t be so strong if it wasn’t for the Rotary.
Thank you again, The MRMS Interact Club
