OTHER NEWS THAT'S FIT TO PRINT
THE STARS WERE OUT SATERDAY EVENING AT THE RI PRESIDENT'S DINNER
By Mary Kay Hasz
Our Club along with our Satellite had 37 members registered at the President's dinner at the Mariott South. That was the highest number of any club in our District. I want to thank all members who supported the event. There were 420 registered for the dinner from three Districts....5440, 5450 and 5470. All three District Governors were present.
The speeches were superb and $21,000 was raised at the dinner for Polio Plus. Our club was recognized along with 7 other clubs as having met President John Germ's goal for 2016-2017 of $2650 per club for polio plus.

RI TAKES ON PASADENA AT THE ROSE PARADE!
The mighty dragon was RI's entry this year's entry into the Rose Parade. The Tournament of Roses approved the design of a colorful travelling dragon representing and celebrating all the Rotarians who through the Rotary Foundation have travelled throughout the world enabling and completing projects in the six areas of focus. The theme was the same as the Centennial Theme “Doing Good in the World.”
Number 18 along the parade route, the dragon was 35-foot-long. A 100-year medallion hung off the dragon’s bit celebrated the Rotary Foundation Centennial. Classic suitcases featured the six Rotary symbols: peace and conflict prevention/resolution; disease prevention and treatment; water and sanitation; maternal and child health; basic education and literacy; and economic and community development.
John Germ, Rotary International President said "Today, our work on Rotary's public image is more important than ever. The work of Rotarians on the Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee is a good example of Rotary creativity and resourcefulness." Rotary Clubs and Districts in North America provided all of the funds to build the float. No funds are received from Rotary International.
MOUNTAIN VISTA INTERACT REPORT
MVHS Interact Club Secretary, Sydney Murphy
Thank you for your incredible support of our club here at Mountain Vista High School, we are so thankful for everything that you've helped our club accomplish! On November 2, Peaceful Schools BASE: In this new event, we visited Summit View students from all grades during the after school daycare program. Club members read stories and performed activities with the elementary school students in order to foster an environment of safety and understanding within their classrooms. Then on November 3, our regular Peaceful Schools activity: We visited our second grade classrooms at Summit View Elementary, and it went great! Club members read stories and performed activities with the elementary school students in order to foster an environment of safety and understanding within their classrooms.
November 5, Food Collection and Shelving: Club members collected nonperishable food outside of local grocery stores to benefit the IFCS Food Bank, which gives to families in the community.
November 6, Friends of Guéoul Mailing: We helped to stuff and send donation collection envelopes to benefit girl's education in Guéoul, Senegal. We have worked with this organization for many years, and seeing our impact on a global scale is very inspiring.
November 12, Bessie's Hope Visit: We visited Brookdale Senior Living and had lots of fun with some Thanksgiving-themed activities. As always, we had many of our middle school club members at this event so it was a great opportunity to get to know them and work together!
November 14, Project C.U.R.E.: We sorted donated medical supplies members of the Rotary Club. It is always so much fun to be joined by many of our local Rotarians and to get to know them better! We certainly look forward to this event next month! Then on November 19, Thanksgiving Distribution: Our club helped to hand out Thanksgiving food packages to local families in need. This event is always so much fun, and a great way to help out our community.
November was a very successful month for us, as we continue through the school year. Thank you again for all your amazing ongoing support.
