Jim & I are so happy to have our dear friends join our club! Haling from Manchester, England, they've resided in the US for many years and became American citizens in 2012. Elaine is a nurse and Phil is a consultant for SML RFID Global Tagging Programs. They have 3 sons.
THEN MEET DIANA GOLDY!
Diana and her husband Chris have 4 children, one still at home. She works for Tall Tails Ranch, now under construction near Cabelas. The vision of Tall Tales Ranch is designed to be a "life sharing community" where adults with special needs can live and thrive. We'll definitely be having a program on this!
ROTARY READERS KICKS INTO ACTION!
Edith Ann (played perfectly by Reen Gottron) joined Iris Price in a skit of what to expect when you've signed up for Rotary Readers. And what a great job they did! This is no harder than teaching your kids or grandkids and Iris should know, she was a reading specialist for her career!
1. Be an encouraging listener
2. Ask the to read each passage as if they were talking to a friend
3. Model reading a line smoothly and with expression
4. If the student points to each word as they read, help them to 'scoop' - move your finger smoothly from the start of a sentence to the next punctuation mark instead of pointing to each word.
MARY KAY STARTED A NEW MONTHLY STORY - A ROTARY MINUTE
In order to keep people in the know about Rotary, who better than Mary Kay to bring up interesting points about our organization. Thursday she discussed district 5450 - how our club fits in to district, what they do and why it's important that we're part of it. This will help new members and seasoned Rotarians alike see the big picture. Expect to see this 'minute' each month.

YOUR ANNUAL PEACH SALE WAS A SUCCESS!
By Jan Keyton
The size of the delivery is a bit overwhelming!
The A-Team!
Tom & Jan Keyton know how to surround themselves with great worker bees!
Not only were the worker bees charming to all our customers, they also found the orders and stowed them in people's trunks!
WHEW, we made it all the way through the 17th Annual Peach & Pear Sale and Delivery Day without so much as a scratch! Thank you to my wonderful volunteer helpers:
Tammy Fennell, Chuck Giebel, Gary Dani, Iris Price, Kate Todd-Sunrise, Li Liu, Nancy Arkins, Connie Golas, Mike Foss, David Blackwood, Scott Campbell & son, Bob Stratton & Earl Hasz-Sunrise, Shrin Murthy, Elaine & Phil Calderbank, and Jim Horner-Sunrise, AND of course, my great hubby Tom Keyton who makes all the numbers count & keeps the traffic moving swiftly along with loading boxes!!! We will have winners and the traveling trophy to reveal this at Thursday’s meeting.
NEW LIFE INTO THE GREETER PROGRAM!
By Zig Berzins
Editors note: Zig is taking over the greeter program. It's important to do this on your assigned date, as we have new people visiting all the time. We want to put our best foot forward to welcome one and all!
To ensure that we continue to be the welcoming club we know ourselves to be, we are requesting all of your support to establish and maintain an effective greeter program. The following guidelines will apply:
There should be two greeters for every club meeting, who must wear the ‘Greeter Badge’.
Greeters should arrive at 11:40am and station themselves at the main lobby door (the first floor).
Every effort will be made to pair a more seasoned member with a newer member.
All members will be scheduled.
Each assigned member will be responsible for obtaining their substitute if they are unable to attend the meeting, including notifying the greeter program coordinator, Zig Berzins, via email,
Greeters will receive an email reminder the weekend before their date.
Greeters will be identified and posted in the newsletter for the coming two weeks.
Each greeter should be aware of guests and speakers, pointing them in the right direction.
DOUGLAS ELBERT TASK FORCE FUNDRAISER
The club had a nice turnout for the Douglas Elbert Task Force fundraiser, An Evening of Help & Hope. In attendance were Jerry & Goldy Wilford, Jerry & Jan Selinfreund, Marion Trummer, Christine Hoyt, Maren Erickson and our exchange student, Bella Ferreiara in her first event with our club!
LAST SUMMER CONCERT - JOIN ROTARY FRIENDS!
This is the last concert this summer at Civic Green Park. Rumors, a jazz band, will be playing this Thursday, August 24 at 6:30 pm. If you're interested in attending, let Gary Dani know at either Thursday's meeting or shoot him an email. He'll get a count and save places for those who want to come.
So grab your pop up chair, a bottle of wine, sit back and relax from the turmoil of the eclipse viewing and listen to some nice jazz tunes! Thanks Gary for putting this together!
UPCOMING EVENTS!
~ Civic Green concert, Aug. 24
~ Rotary Readers at Sedalia Elementary, Tuesdays 10:30-11:30 am
While watching the eclipse you may have noticed that the shadows cast by trees had become quite strange. The tiny gaps between leaves act as pinhole lenses, projecting crescent shaped images of the eclipsed sun onto the ground below. It's a beautiful natural phenomenon.
