2016 - THE YEAR IN REVIEW!
We have a most active club.  Take a moment to remember some of the highlights including leadership, volunteers, socials, honors, meetings and our losses.

With our limited newsletter space, I've had to be selective on choices.  If you have a specific memory you'd like to submit to the Wheel, please send a story and photo during the month of January and I'll be happy to publish it!

PEOPLE
Jan Selinfreund stepped it up not only for her term, but the remainder of Tom Havens' term when he moved away - 18 months as president!
Mary Kay Hasz, served as District Governor for District 5450. Such an honor to have her serve on the district level, the omnipotent Rotarian!
Jerry Wilford was 2016's ROTARIAN OF THE YEAR!

Cindy Begley is our president elect.  Here she is with husband Mike - a rocket scientist with a comedic side!
Our club's reach extends to district level as well.  John Logan, Ray Anderson, Lee Mulberry & Betsy Alexander all serve on district committees.

HONORS

THE CLUB WAS NAMED AS IFCS 2016 NIBBLES & SIPS HONOREE!
Upon receiving our award, Jan & Jerry presented a $10,000 check to IFCS's Sandra Blythe-Perry   from HR Rotary
JERRY JOINS THE RATPACK!

Our work with the Non Commissioned Officers Assoc. in Colo. Springs has been a wonderful partnership working and helping the military.  Jerry Selinfreund was inducted into the NCOA International Rat Pack.  And who else is in line for this prestigious award? Tim Sparks and Tom Keyton.

VOLUNTEERISM

Mary Kay reminds us of the time/money our members gave last Rotary year.  Charles Tutor and now Elizabeth Kringel, was the keeper of the project.  He reported our money and volunteer hoursl for last Rotary year was $159,463 - $87,211 cash to charities and 72,752 value in volunteer hours locally and 7,000 internationally.  Well done Club members!
We've made & served several meals at the Ronald McDonald House.  Building friendships with club members and families of hospitalized children.

RYLA is a huge part of Rotary's summer
The outdoor classroom at HR High School was a great community event.  The club worked with HR Garden Club and the students to complete the project.  Here is the 'before' space.

And here is how it looked 'after'!

The club has practically remodeled all of the Douglas Elbert Task Force store!  We've replaced a damaged back door, built a cement pad for trash containers, prepped and painted the kitchen and the front retail area, around 2,000 sq. ft.
The International Service committee, led by Bill Simmermon, outdid itself by setting up the club's first ever international volunteer trip.  Teaming up with a Peace Corps group, they joined several other clubs to teach reading to children in Costa Rica. And on a second trip, Marion Trummer & Natasha Nola helped deliver wheel chairs.

Santa Clothes is a great event where we help children go on a $100 shopping spree!

Another part of helping students is our high school scholarship program. Fourteen are selected & honored each year, with one winning the scholarship
NCOA golf tourney at Ft. Carson in C. Springs is always well attended. The club is a heavy donator to their work
