DID YOU MISS LAST WEEK'S MEETING? HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED
Joyce Feustel talked about promoting our club on Facebook
She says, even you are just an occasional user of Facebook, here are tips for ways you can help your Rotary Club have a stronger presence on Facebook.
Start by liking the club’s Facebook business page. Find that page by typing in the name of the club into the search box of Facebook. When you see the name of the club appear, click on the box with the profile photo and name of your club. Then click on the button called “Like.”
Copy the URL for the business page and paste it into a Facebook post that you create in which you ask your Facebook friends to like your club’s Facebook business page.
Our Facebook manager, Patrick Prutsman, has a few easy suggestions you can use on Facebook to help our membership:
1. "Like" our page
2. "Like" & "Share" our posts
3. "Tag" yourself and others in pictures on our page.
50/50 WINNER: Gail Mullen
GREETERS: Ray Anderson INSPIRATION: Scott Davenport
MARK YOUR CALENDAR: Bright Futures Gala, Saturday, October 8!
WHAT'S ON THE PROGRAM AT THIS WEEK'S MEETING??
~ Debby Doig will regale us with the fun we'll expect at the Bright Futures Gala!
With less than a month until the Gala, things are heating up! Here are some dates you need to know:
SPONSORS, BE AWARE! Your sponsorship payments are due on Thursday, September 15!
SOLD! Live and silent auction items are very much needed by September 19!
NO WINING! You can bring your wine donations to every event and meeting. Being a group who cherishes their 'adult beverages', wine is a great addition to every prize!
AUCTION ITEMS: Our sponsorships this year have broken a record - we're over 60K now -- yahoo! But with that, goes the live & silent auction items as the second part of the revenue generators. So put on your thinking caps and come up with some great prizes that you'd like to bid on. The prizes can be food, drink, sports, jewelry, events, travel, themed, just cool stuff you always see while shopping - the ideas are endless! If you don't want to be creative, let Carolyn Bradish and Marion Trummer, the basket makers, be. All you have to do is give 'em money and they'll be creative enough for the both of you!
** CLUB ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 20 **
Due to a scheduling conflict at Lone Tree, we've decided to reschedule the club assembly. Please make note.
AMENDMENT 69 DEBATE
Be sure to invite your friends to our first ever voter education debate. On September 29, Colorado State Treasurer Walker Stapleton will debate single payor insurance with one of the authors of the legislation with Colorado Care. It proposes to establish a single payer healthcare system supported by premiums collected from all Colorado residents based on income. Since this amendment would impact all of us, the Rotary Club of Highlands Ranch wants attendees to thoroughly understand the pros and cons and are hosting a 'true' debate. The purpose is to educate rather than encourage you one way or the other.
OUR CLUB'S DISTRICT DRIVERS
Editors note: Please offer suggestions on Wheel Spinner content. That's just what Jan Keyton did with this story - she gave me the idea and I ran with it. this newsletter is driven by you - so if you want info on any club related topic, I'm happy to do the research.
We are so fortunate to have several members who serve Rotary at the district level. That gives our club a say in district policy as well as assisting other clubs. our club's district drivers work hand in hand with other district committees and the assistant governor for maximum impact. Because Bill Downes has
PAST DISTRICT GOVERNOR - MARY KAY HASZ: Mary Kay stays on as an advisor to Bill Downes
DISTRICT TREASURER - BETSY ALEXANDER: My responsibilities as district treasurer are primarily to be custodian of the district funds, ensure that budgetary control is maintained and seeing that all required reports are producing all required reports are accurate and timely. I also serve on the finance committee and am a member of the board of directors. Broader responsibilities include check writing, reconciliation of accounts, preparation of monthly financial statements, and participating in budget, financial policy discussions, and communication on financial matters with district committees, and communication of tax issues and year end accounting for the financial statement preparation with our CPA firm.
VOCATIONAL TRAINING - JOHN LOGAN: I am the district VTT chair for the third year. Vocational Team Training is the successor to the Group Study Exchange program which I chaired for about 5 years. GSE was dropped with the new Rotary Foundation Programs. VTT is a grant program to send a focused group of Rotarians and non Rotarians to other countries to study specific problems then set up bigger grants to solve the problem studied. For example a D5450 team of six health professionals from our local hospitals and government departments just got back from the Philippines studying ways to decrease Hospital Acquired Infections. A team from the Philippines will come here in November. Then they plan to write prepare an online manual that can be used to improve conditions anywhere.
ASSISTANT GOVERNOR - RAY ANDERSON: My district job one of sixteen Assistant Governors (AG). I am responsible for the clubs in Area 5: Castle Pines, Castle Rock, Castle Rock High Noon, and Highlands Ranch. The AG position has a term of three years and mine will run through June of 2019. As an Assistant Governor my primary role is to help and assist those Rotary clubs assigned to me to become more effective by assisting the District Governor with their administration.
YOUTH SERVICES - LEE MULBERRY: I am District Chair for Youth Services, including RYLA/YRYLA, Interact, Youth Exchange and Rotaract. I have held the position since Dec, 2015. My mission is to improve the link between these programs, being sure the kids/young adults understand they are part of an International Family and there is a pathway of Rotary involvement as they grow older. Each of these programs does a tremendous job of serving their constituencies, however, we have not done a good job of keeping as many of these kids as possible involved with Rotary by moving them from program to program as they age. The end goal is that they are Rotarians for life.
Of course Mary Kay is our most visible club member at the district level, as she is past president. She spent years learning to be DG, then serving as DG, now mentoring the new DG!
Look at this trio of District drivers! John Logan is the Vocational Training Teams chair; Ray Anderson is Assistant Governor of District 5; and Lee Mulberry is Youth Services Chair.
Betsy Alexander is busy with her duties as District Treasurer
