DID YOU MISS LAST WEEK'S MEETING?  HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED
THE MELLOW MUSHROOM WAS A DELICIOUS CHANGE OF PACE!

Our annual off-site meeting was a huge success as Rotarians scrambled to get their hands on some tasty slices!  The Mellow Mushroom's patio dining area was hopping on a beautiful day.  We had 4 guests join as well, friends of Connie, Jane & Cindy. Thanks to Connie for organizing the event. It was a very social afternoon!

WHAT'S ON THE PROGRAM AT THIS WEEK'S MEETING??
Retired warden of the Alcatraz of the Rockies, the Florence Supermax, Robert Hood will be our speaker.

OTHER NEWS THAT'S FIT TO PRINT

Don't forget to bring in food for the two food drives we're contributing to.  Our two biggest causes - IFCS and Douglas Elbert Task Force - are gearing up for some major food needs as the holidays approach.  Their clients are in need as we enter the holiday season, in need of food not just for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but for the next few months as kids are home from school and eating them out of house and home.  So write this on your grocery list right now - FOOD FOR THE CAUSE, LOTS OF FOOD FOR THE CAUSE!

You'll see two barrels at the club meeting, each labeled for one of the organizations.  Divvy up between the two, buy a lot and help out our fellow Coloradans.

BUSY WEEKEND FOR OUR INTERACT CLUB
The Mountain Vista High School & Mountain Ridge Middle School Interact Club were busy bees this weekend. Between the IFCS food drive and the Bowling for Bessie's Hope, they accomplished so much.  Gotta love 'em! And here's their recent report.

Hello Rotary Friends!
Thank you for your wonderful support of our club here at Mountain Vista, we are incredibly thankful for everything that you've helped our club accomplish so far!  We are all very excited to continue our partnership with you as we continue this school year full of great service events.   These are the events we were involved with in October:

October 8, Bessie's Hope- We visited with the residents at Brookdale Senior Living and had lots of fun with some Halloween-themed activities.  We had many of our middle school members at this event so it was a great opportunity to get to know them.

October 8, Interact District Conference- We sent a small group of our current and future Interact Club officers to a district conference where they collaborated with other local Interact Clubs and came up with some great event ideas!

October 20, Peaceful Schools Visit- We visited our first and third grade classrooms at Summit View Elementary, and it went great!  Club members read stories and facilitated activities with the elementary school students in order to foster an environment of safety and understanding within their classrooms

October 20, Project C.U.R.E.- We sorted medical supplies at Project C.U.R.E.'s international headquarters with club members, unboxing and sorting various medical supplies to be sent out to third world countries.  We were joined by many of our local Rotarians and it was great to get to know them!  We look forward to this event next month!

October 26, Trick-Or-Treat Street- We participated in Mountain Vista's annual Trick-Or-Treat Street, where many MVHS clubs decorated throughout the school, and passed out candy to kids 6th grade and younger.  The goal of this event is to provide a safe alternative to door-to-door trick-or-treating.

October 31, Halloween Food Drive- We went "trick-or-treating" for cans and nonperishables on Halloween night to donate to Fresh Harvest food pantry.  This was this first year that we have done this event, and it was a great success!  We plan to continue it in the future.

This month was a successful one for us, and we plan to have an even better one in November!  Thank you again for all your incredible support of our club.
MVHS Interact Club Secretary,
Sydney Murphy
Both high school and middle school students participated

They collected two carloads of groceries which filled the entire back of two SUVs

The high school students had some fun in their 'spare' time bowling for their charity of choice, Bessie's Hope!

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT'S DINNER JANUARY 7, 2017

By Mary Kay Hasz

Not many of the approximately 540 Districts making up Rotary International have the honor of hosting the current Rotary International President and hearing his message.  We in District 5450 are indeed privileged to have the sitting RI President two years in succession!!

Rotarians of District 5450 are outstanding in our commitment to Service Above Self and our support of the Rotary International Foundation.  RI appreciates all that we do.  Let us show RI President John Germ and his wife Judy our appreciation for them by selling our the banquet room. Please make it a point to register now for the January 7th reception and dinner at our own Denver South Marriott.  Registration is now open.  Your November District Newsletter contained a link to register and you may also go to www.rotary5450.org.  You will be seated automatically with members of  our Club. Event's proceeds and contributions will go to Polio Plus.

PUT YOUR HANDS TOGETHER FOR...
We always have unsung heros at our club - people who do things week after week that make the organization run smoothly.  In this new column, we'll give a shout our to some of our champions!

THIS WEEK'S UNSUNG HERO IS...LI LIU

You see Li at every event.  He is as regular as clockwork, lending a hand, helping out, participating in various projects, donating, meeting visitors, volunteering, serving on the board.  But what do you see him doing the most?  Taking pictures!  Almost every photo that appears in the Wheel has been taken by Li.  We'd barely have an issue without his contribution.  So put your hands together for Mr. Li Liu!

Here we see Li finally sitting down at the Gadsby Gala, surrounded by a bevy of beauties - Cindy Begley & Renee Simmermon.
