DID YOU MISS LAST WEEK'S MEETING? HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED

WOW - WHAT A MEETING!
Too bad for you if you missed last week's meeting.  Over 50 people attended (in the small downstairs room, I might add) to hear about our new Rotoraction satellite club as well as the Light Rail plans for the Lone Tree area.

NEW OFFICERS FOR ROTARACTION!

Former RYLA junior counselors will make up the new club officer team.  It's open to 18-30 year olds interested in serving their community. All members will be full Rotarians.

Mary Sand, L, will be president, Katie Kelly, secretary, and Charlie Harrington will manage programs.  Even with their busy college lives, this threesome are taking the reins of an innovative new program that could take the Rotary world by storm, and help craft the face of Rotary for the next gen.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Props go out to Lee Mulberry & Dave Amen for putting together this one-of-a-kind entrée into Rotary's tried-and-true membership category.  Thursday's launch definitely brought out the Rotary star power with DG Bill Downes and past DG, our own Mary Kay Hasz.

Rotaraction came together through the collective
intelligence of an amazing group of Rotarians.
This club will have no geographic boundaries and will communicate primarily through a smart phone app. No matter where the new Rotarians reside in the country, they will be in this second satellite club of HR Rotary.

Mentors to our Rotaraction officers will be Mary Kay, Tom Keyton & Lee Mulberry.

RTD EXPANSION UPDATE

As part of our Who's Who & What's What series, the packed crowd heard about the 2.3 mile extension from Lincoln Station, across I-25 to the new RidgeGate station.  Cost? 233.1 MILLION surprise
FasTracks reps pulled into the Rotary station for the presentation! Anya Lofgren & Pauleen Haberman discussed the new extension

OTHER NEWS THAT'S FIT TO PRINT

WE NOW HAVE A NEW COMMITTEE - MILITARY
Jerry Selinfreund will chair this new committee, dedicated to support our military relationships.  Some of our vets who will serve on this committee are Tom Keyton, USAF; Kevin MacKessy, Army & DOD; Jimmy Kinley, USMC; Connie Golas  and Tim Sparks, USAF, will serve as well. This committee will oversee our work with NCOA, Crawford house, Project Warm Heart, Warrior Bonfire, Snowball Express and Hang with Heros.

AND SPEAKING OF MILITARY CONNECTIONS...

THE WARRIORS ARE IN TOWN!

The Military Committee's first act - meeting a 'platoon' of Warrior Bonfire Purple Heart recipients on their travels to Colorado.  We provided goodie bags for their trip up to Grandby for an outdoor adventure, making sure they have sunscreen, Colorado t-shirts, treats, etc. Yup, that's Connie, our own warrior, amid the vets!
The Warrior Bonfire Program is an organization created for service members who have been wounded in combat operations. The purpose of the program is to encourage camaraderie between those that can fully understand the mindset of a combat wounded soldier and /or their spouse, foster healing through those relationships, inspire growth towards new passions and purpose post military service, or simply know they are not alone. They host trips that include therapeutic small group activities such as hunting, fishing, skiing and more, with each event concluding with a bonfire.

NEW MEMBER WELCOME!
Our newest member to receive a red badge is Scott Campbell, in the land banking category.  Scott's mentor will be Neil DeLorenzo. Be sure to introduce your self at the next meeting!

IFCS FOOD DRIVE IS HERE - PLEASE BRING IN FOOD, AND LOTS OF IT!
Here's Connie with a huge donation.  Don't be left out, bring in canned or boxed goods to refill the food bank shelves! Summer is especially hard on families in need, what with the kids home all day.  Let's make sure they have full stomachs by bringing in food to each meeting in June!

IT'S ALMOST PEACH TIME!

According to our western slope source, there will be a bumper crop of delicious peaches coming our way in August!  DON'T let your friends and family miss out on this locavore treat, right from Colorado!

Tom Keyton expects to have the website up & running by mid-June so you can begin to enter your orders.  Competition for the most sales will be fierce.  And with our BIG BIG winner, Judy Rooney gone, the rest of you can duke it out for the honor!

Remember, this is what funds our RYLA activities, which is such a big part of our summer volunteerism, so get those orders in!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Hooah /ˈhuːɑː/ is military slang. Originally "HOOA" was used by US Army Airborne in World War II meaning "Head Out Of Ass" and was a spin-off of Radio Operators' HUA "Heard Understood Acknowledged". As the term spread throughout the Army it gained a more general meaning of "anything and everything except 'no'".
