DID YOU MISS LAST WEEK'S MEETING? HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED
EL PORVENIR - WATER FOR NICARAGUA

Teresa Mazza discussed the need for clean water in the rural areas of Nicaragua.  They're committed to the basics of existence, latrines, wash stations and teaching residents about the importance of hand washing.  Along with this comes watershed management and biodiversity.  Their goal is to have this population start the climb out of poverty and become environmental stewards.

The club presented her with a check for $500.

AN ENTHUSIASTIC STUDENT, TO BE SURE!

Estee Medberry was a pleasant change from our usual students.  Her enthusiasm for all things geological/metallurgical was apparent, from being 3rd in the state for gold panning to finding solace in rock hounding.  A former Young RYLA and RYLA participant, she is familiar with the virtues of Rotary, which many feel is important when selecting the scholarship winner.  She is also active in Colorado Young Leaders, a group of teens who volunteer across Colorado in anything from building hiking trails to  tutoring children who have fallen behind in school or come from underprivileged backgrounds.

GREETER:  Li Liu

- ON DECK: Heather Dawson
- IN THE HOLE: Christie Banowitz
INSPIRATION:  Connie Golas
50/50 WINNER: Christie Banowitz, who donated her winnings back to El Porvenir

WHAT'S ON THE PROGRAM AT THIS WEEK'S MEETING??
Shrin Murthy will share  his view from the top (bottom?) of the world on his recent trip to Antarctica.

ANOTHER WAY TO CELEBRATE THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF WOMEN IN ROTARY
The Golden Rotary Club is sponsoring a 30th Anniversary of Women in Rotary event.  With the privilege of having Dr. Sylvia Whitlock serve as the honoree, the first woman club president in Rotary, this celebration will be April 22 from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. and will feature all the women leaders from Golden Rotary and District 5450.  PDG Talee Crowe will serve as emcee for this “coffee and conversation” with Dr. Whitlock.  All Rotarians/friends/guests are invited.  Net proceeds will be donated to help end Polio in honor of the past, present, and future women Rotarians. You can register for the event on the Golden Club's home page, http://rotaryclubofgolden.org/.

NEW GREETER PROGRAM A SUCCESS!

The greeter program is working out well.  How nice to see a familiar face  welcoming members and guests at the door! Thanks to all for your participation.  What a great way to get a chance to talk to all the members as they enter.
