We had one guest who came with Shannon O'Brien. Her name was Jannette Reynolds. They met at the Chamber of Commerce.
Jannette took a moment to share the touching story of her late daughter, Addison, who was wheelchair bound. Her daughter passed away at age 28 and had always wished she could play on playgrounds that were often inaccessible because of the wood chips and gravel.
In her memory, her family and she started a foundation called Miles for Addison. They are holding a local race on 9/21 in Sterling Ranch to raise money for playground construction. They are seeking runners, volunteers, and sponsors. Information is available online. Win Pendleton also visited, but we have decided he does not really count as a guest! (Flyin' B is up to 19 members! Kudos to Win and the group.)
The rock went from Shrin
to Mark Eberly for his devotion for over 20 years to Western Welcome Week.
Our speaker was great and informative. We had Brittany Calvert to speak to us about the importance of blood donation. Brittany was funny and informative. She reminded us that one donation can save 3 lives. She also explained the different types of donations: whole blood, plasma, and red blood cells. Each has value and all are needed. She reminded us to know our blood types and that those special type O donors are universal and greatly-needed because anyone can receive that blood.
Further, she did a long Q&A and reminded us to look into it for specific questions. Donating is easy and fast and there are always snacks! You can call 877-25-Vital for information on donation locations and organizing a blood drive. 200,000 donations are needed annually in the US.
Meeting announcements and Updates:
* We were successful in selling 1,229 boxes of Peaches and had 19 kids at 3 sessions this year. 600+ cars were expected on Saturday to pick up peaches and pears.
IMPORTANT: This week's meeting is at The Hub and will be box lunches.
District Conference is 28th of September and we will have a table at the House of Friendship. There is a sign up sheet to help.
We will be having a social on August 29th at On the Border. Please sign up this week so that we can give a table count for the patio. Your +1 guest if it is your spouse/significant other is free but if you bring other guests, it is $10 per person. Please RSVP to Jane Kucharski by the 22nd.
For Family of Rotary, we are holding Anne Lester, Bob Larson, and Janet Miller in our thoughts along with Phil Calderbank who is beginning his treatment. He will be in the hospital for several weeks getting a stem cell transplant from a 19-year-old female. We hope he comes out stronger than ever! To all of our members and their families, we send our very best. Let Kim DeCoste know if you have an update you would like here in the Wheel Spinner.
The wine bottle auction was hilarious as we drew five times because you must be present to win! Shrin was the last person to draw and he pulled his own name!
Finally, it was announced that we will have a holiday party on December 7th. Details will follow shortly.

Additional notes and updates:
Jan Keyton sent photos and a quote from the successful picnic for RYLA. We will put that all on Facebook for you, as photos are easier to share there.
Flyin' b will meet on 8/22 from 4-5 in the Longs Ridge Classroom and has a spot after for dinner reserved.
We accidentally forgot to update WS last week for Sunrise Club. Cindy did send a note. They voted that they would donate all of their Happy dollars from last Rotary Year to the Douglas County Backpack program for kids in need of supplies. Tom Keyton was welcomed officially as a new member of the noon meeting group.
Kristy Hayzlett is stepping up to help lead the Social Committee and will have suggestion cards for you when she is at the meetings. Please jot down your ideas for social gatherings/venues/events and give them to her or Nancy Bartlett or Kim DeCoste who will be helping Kristy with the Social Committee. Kristy travels quite a bit, so if you do not see her, please tap Nancy or Kim.
Kristy and Kim are working to expand our social media presence a bit, as our new District Governor, Tamie, is very busy and has been on point for Facebook. Please send photos of the activities you do to Kristy and or to Kim and we will do out best to get them out so the world can see all the wonderful work you all do!
Finally, a reminder, if you need something in the Wheel Spinner, please send via email (for articles) as opposed to text messages. It is easy for those to get overlooked. Please indicate in the subject line "For the Wheel Spinner" so our "team" does not miss it!
Thank you all and have a great afternoon! See you at The HUB on Thursday not at the club!
Submitted Respectfully & yours in Rotary,
~Kim DeCoste
