DID YOU MISS LAST WEEK'S MEETING: HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED

DR. JAMES JACKSON ENTERTAINED ROTARIANS WITH STORIES OF HIS TRAVELS WITH PROJECT CURE

Jim discussed how he started Project CURE after seeing the deplorable medical conditions in a small Brazilian town.  Upon return to Colorado, he immediately began a quest to solicit left over medical supplies across the country to disburse throughout third world countries.

Our club has volunteered at Project Cure for 20 years.
Jim regaled us with stories of his visits to these countries, the successes and frightening moments he has encountered. He has put them together in a book, The Happiest Man in the World.

ROTARY READERS ENDS IT'S SCHOOL YEAR WITH A PIZZA PARTY
We had a big year with Rotary Readers.  In addition to Bear Canyon Elementary, we took on a second school, Sedalia Elementary!  Hats off to Judy Rooney & Iris Price for all the hard work they put in on this committee.

One component of the program is the Rotary Library.  The club donated a set of books the students would read, and once completed, were treated to an end of the year pizza party.  Thanks to Judy, Iris, Connie Golas Steve Miller & Jim Bramley for working the pizza party and book quiz with the students last Tuesday.

HELP SUNRISE CLUB WITH ELEPHANT ROCK CYCLING FESTIVAL

Sunday June 5 is the 29th Annual Subaru Elephant Rock ride through Castle Rock. 5 cycling courses from the family friendly 8 mile to the more strenuous 100 mile are offered to riders. For the 4th year, the Rotarians with Highlands Ranch Sunrise will be volunteering as marshals' along the ride routes. There are 15 stations which need one or two members to ring cowbells, offer encouragement and make sure the riders stay on course. This is a fundraiser and volunteer opportunity for the Sunrisers. If you are interested in participating in this fun event, please contact Ann Mather for more details, 303-570-9838 or Annmather@aol.com. Thank you for supporting your Satellite group!!!

GUESTS PLAYED SPOONS AT KEYTON'S FRIENDSHIP DINNER!

This must be an age-old trick!

A bit of silliness took place at the Keyton's Saturday night as guests' practiced that old bar trick of hanging a spoon off their nose! Twelve people had a great dinner and a great time at our last friendship dinner of the season.

Many thanks to the Keytons, Connie Golas and Michelle McRae for providing wonderful evenings. And start thinking about hosting for our next round. We want to get some new faces in on the joy of entertaining other Rotarians! It's not hard, as everyone contributes. Members really enjoy the interaction with each other.

ANOTHER BUSY MONTH FOR THE INTERACTORS
This month our Interact Club did some exciting events. We had our last Brookdale visit for the school year with our friends there. We had a great time doing crafts and singing with the residents.

Our school hosted an iLab Symposium for 7th grade students and their parents.  This was a way for kids to come up with an idea that could change the world for the better.  Interact Club sold concessions at this event to raise over $400 to donate to our International charity.

We also worked concessions at the annual night of champions, hosted by one of our middle school teachers. Night of Champions is a community night where students and their families come together to watch the teachers play basketball.  We paired up with the track team and sold raffle tickets for spectators to take a half court shot and win a prize.  The money we earned from the raffle and concessions (about $600) is being donated to Children's Hospital.

We had some members initiate and organize some projects that other members could participate in.  One of them was going to a stable and working with horses that had been rescued from situations where their health was in danger.  A small group of students organized a visit to the stable to help clean, feed and work with the horses.

Another member of the club gave us the opportunity of participating in the PB and J Plan.  This event was for families to participate in making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to hand out to those in need in Denver.  It was an event that came up kind of late in the year, but we want to try to continue doing it next year.

A new activity we tried this year was going to Denver Health and volunteering with a program called Newborns in Need.  We donated lots of baby items that were put into small gift bags to be given to new mothers who cannot afford basic supplies for their babies.  We were able to help assemble 51 bags.

One teacher at our school asked for our help in organizing a fundraiser to go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  We helped him to campaign to cut his long hair, but only if we raised $1,000.  By the end of the event, we helped to raise over $2,100.

We also celebrated our year with an end of the year party. We talked about our experiences in the Interact Club, and which events were our favorites.. Thank you Rotary so much for an amazing year and the amazing opportunities and memories.

We hope you have a great summer.
Jackson and Carson, MRMS Interact
