LAST WEEK:Mike Foss, Veteran's Day and Bonfire
Mike is President of Warrior Bonfire a program providing opportunities that improve the lives of enemy-combat wounded Veterans, Purple Heart recipients, on their life-long journey of recovery and healing by creating activity-based, small group retreats that foster healing, build support communities, and transform lives. Mike shared an event that concludes each retreat,
an official American Flag Retirement Ceremony which helps Veterans move past the stage of survivor's guilt by giving them the opportunity to name, honor, and memorialize their fallen brothers and sisters. Ashes from each bonfire are collected and combined with ashes from the next bonfire. Fallen heroes are memorialized through the ashes and therefore never forgotten. We were honored to participate in the same acknowledging our own fallen heroes. Mike Wescott, NCOA, also acknowledged our Vietnam Veterans. Please consider the Warrior Bonfire Program on Giving Tuesday (11/28) or Colorado Gives Day (12/5) as they strive to meet their goal of raising $30,000.
We were honored to welcome Mike Wescott from NCOA, John Logan's son Ryan, the Leaycraft's from Sunrise, and Shelley Falk from Belize. It was great to see both Kari and Mark Brown again.
Scott introduced Alexia Bouy from Thunder Ridge HS, her parents, and one of her teachers. Alexia is another remarkable student: proficient in 3 languages, an academic scholar, in the IB (International Baccalaureate) Programme, tutors internationally, and close to my heart supports Moms and Mutts Colorado Rescue for Pregnant & Nursing Dogs to name a few of her remarkable accomplishments.
Shrin passed the You Rock Award to Jerry Wilford who is the Rock of our Club and Foundation.
Shrin also shared his experience visiting RI Headquarters in Evanston, IL where he shared information for the Rotary Magazine regarding the Pediatric Mental Health Program and funded Endowment and shook hands with Paul Harris.
The Nominating Committee announced their candidate for President Elect Nominee 2025-26, Bill Leeper and asked for nominations from the floor. No names were offered.
Elaine initiated Nancy Barton with her mentor and sponsor Debby Doig.
Tamie (District Governor Elect 2024-25) and Bill (Assistant Governor for Area 4) described their attendance at the Big West Zone 26 & 27 Institute in San Diego which included the official graduation and gala ceremony celebrating the DG Class of 2024-25. Of note, Colorado includes 3 Districts: 5440, 5450, and 5470 encompassing 57 Clubs, 12 Areas/Assistant Governors, and 2550 members. Tamie encouraged members to join her May 24-29, 2024, for the Rotary International Convention in Singapore and meet RI President Elect Stephanie Urchick. The 2025 Convention will be held in Calgary. Bill encouraged members to think about membership; internationally 150,000 people enter Rotary while at the same time 160,000 leave Rotary. Tamie shared her inspirational and moving speech given in San Diego.
Shannon gifted and bought her bottle of wine, Painted Wolf, from South Africa contributing $130 to our Foundation. Thank you, Shannon!
