Last Week - Char Cruz, Peaceful Schools Redux Charissa (Char) Cruz, Executive Director of the Rotary initiated Peaceful Schools program, now called Epic Ethics for Peaceful Schools Program, joined us providing an update of their fascinating program. Epic Ethics, the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Elementary School Program, is a proven and extremely cost-effective program for fostering character development and social-emotional skills in elementary school classrooms. Epic Ethics offers a series of literacy-based classroom lessons combining stories and activities with interactive discussion. Each of 5 learning modules addresses one or more of the following concepts: expressing feelings, resolving conflict, celebrating diversity, building community and developing strength through peace. The program can be taught by the classroom teacher or where practicable high school students can be engaged and trained to conduct these classroom-based lessons; Char is working with Cheryl O'Brien from Interact. Epic Ethics blends academic instruction with exploration of the essential human challenges of character development through the ethical problem-solving lens of the Four Awesome Questions: Is it true? Is it fair? Will it build friendships and community? Will it be helpful to those involved? Their goal is to grow to 100 elementary schools in Colorado by June 2021.
