THIS WEEK: Update on Belize - Bill Simmermon & Phil Horning
Greeter(s): Steve Miller
Inspiration Sep 22: Bill Simmermon
Inspiration Oct 6: Chip Hartney
50/50 winner: The Bramley's
LAST WEEK:Alex Wharry & Carl Husmann's Classification Talks
Kevin introduced Alex and Eric and Elya introduced Carl; both men shared their fascinating and awesome journeys, Alex to Alaska and Carl to Peru, that ultimately led them to Rotary. A fun fact about each: Alex has a saxophone under his bed (he should start practicing, we are thinking a 'true' band for this year's holiday party!!) and Carl can hold his breath through the entire Eisenhower Tunnel (we're all wondering if he maintained the speed limit?). If a recording of the meeting is available you should listen to their talks, each man has led his life utilizing the Four-Way Test and we are honored they joined our Club.
We welcomed Bill Leeper's friends, Peter and Jennie Grondorf.
Jan's final stats from the peach/pear sales:
$37,700 gross
$2,509 expenses/partners share
$1,550 credit card expenses
$23,469 cost of fruit
$10,150 NET profit for Youth Services
We grow stronger every year in our support for RYLA, thank you to all who may still be enjoying their delicious fruit.
Bright Futures Update: the campaign ended Aug 31st with a total just shy of $127,000 and 98% participation. There is still time to pledge, and we can reach 100%!
We received a heartfelt, sincere thank you from our Afghan family including coloring book drawings from the kids. One must appreciate their effort to write a letter in English when they do not speak the language.
Announcements
Jane learned about 8 members are interested in attending Air Force games in Colorado Springs on Oct 22nd against Boise State and/or Nov 12th against New Mexico. Please let Jane know if you are interested, 303-257-4657.
Thanks to Ray for supporting our Foundation with this week's auctioned French red wine and a special thanks to Bob for his continued donation of wine to be auctioned.
Elizabeth reminded us of the significance of our hand decorated Angel Heart bags; please consider taking a bag or two to decorate and make a difference in someone's life. Not only does the bag contain food but it is a cheery reminder we care.
Family of Rotary Concerns
Our prayers and best wishes continue for Reen as she recovers and for Connie Dix as she continues to fight infection. We also have Christine Hoyt in our prayers as she heals from a broken wrist; thankfully it is her left wrist, so she is able to continue sewing. Our Rotary family prayers are with Elya and Eric as they strive to expand their family.
