Mar 28th: Erin Kane, Douglas County School Superintendent
MEETING HIGHLIGHTS Mar 21st:
Thank you to Jan Keyton for providing information from the meeting to allow me to write this week's Wheel Spinner.
We welcomed Sarah Beliti, Business Attorney Immigration and Joel Johnson from Sunrise. Joel brought the signup sheet for the Recycle Event May 4th and gave an update on last year's success: 1100 cars or 1 car every 15 seconds, 60,000 pounds of paint recycled, with a $10,000 net, and this year with sponsors.
Irmgarde Brown, Children of the City of Czars author.
This was Irmgarde's, Zig's sister, second visit. She gave a very engaging, animated, and well-spoken presentation describing her latest book that brings readers into the turbulent lives of three orphaned siblings in the barely navigable, cynically cruel world of 1990s St. Petersburg following the unexpectedly disruptive break-up of the Soviet Union. MVHS Interact Club Newsletter
Hello Rotary Friends,
I hope you are all doing well. The second semester has been off to a busy and incredible start. The MVHS Interact Club has already participated in many events this year.
The MVHS Interact Club has already found much success in just two months of the second semester.
We have had the opportunity to complete two of our Peaceful School visits, visiting classrooms at a local elementary school, reading books, and learning essential themes and lessons. In addition, we have had the opportunity to see our incredible friends at our local Senior Living Center, Brookdale. We completed crafts, puzzles, and coloring sheets and sang songs. We have also been able to volunteer at Project Cure, helping package medical supplies. Last month, we had members participate in the Nibbles and Sips Fundraiser, helping inflate and tie balloons to be tied for event decor. This week, we are participating in our school's annual Diversity Week, helping run a booth during lunches.
At the beginning of February, MVHS hosted our annual wish week. This year, our wish kid was a young boy named Addison, whose wish was to have a Harry Potter/Hogwarts experience. One of the Wish Week events to raise money for Make-A-Wish was a Carnival for elementary-aged kids to participate in at MVHS. Interact hosted a game booth and handed out candy to the kids.
This is only the beginning! We have a busy schedule of fantastic events coming up throughout the rest of the semester. We will be hosting our annual IFCS Hygiene Drive, Earth Day clean-up in April, more Peaceful Schools visits, and Brookdale visits. We are so excited to finish this semester with such amazing events!
We look forward to hosting many more successful events this year!! We want to thank you for your continuous support of our club. We will continue to send you updates on all the activities we are participating in.
