LAST WEEK:  Bob Pence returns, Pathway to a Violent America and Jim Murdock's Classification Talk

Jim Bramley introduced Bob who continued his tales with the FBI. Bob shared his interesting experiences with civil rights including the KKK and Nazis to Russian missiles, and migrant labor camps. He brought copies of his book, "My Non-Political FBI: From Hoover to a Violent America" documenting some of his FBI and post-FBI adventures but also relates his insights into the major changes to the FBI through the years from the early days of its first director J. Edgar Hoover.

We thank the Easter Bunny for the lovely flowers placed on all the tables.

We welcomed Dave Amen from the e-Club and Courtney Bailey again with Mindy. It was great to see Bob Larson in person and Phil and Elaine and Kelsey on Zoom.

Ray passed around a sign-up sheet for the upcoming District Conference to support Bev at the registration table and for sergeant-at-arms. He also asked for volunteers to be photographers.

We all enjoyed accompanying Jim Murdock on his journey zig zagging across the country and how he and his wife came to Highlands Ranch Rotary. Welcome! We're glad you're here.

Announcements

Debbie thanked Joan for placing the Sunrise Recycling Event in the HR Lifestyle Magazine, great publicity.
Debbie also distributed cards to each of the tables describing HR Rotary. The QR code talks about our Club and accesses our website. Feel free to use these as you are discussing Rotary with others.

Kevin and Connie gave an update on the refugee project and its continued success.

With Bob's return we resumed the wine auctions. Congratulations to Reen and her Napa Valley Cab.

I CAN BIKE CAMP Update - Sue Bramley
You remember the great program we had on St. Patrick’s Day from Kent Husa on I CAN BIKE. Here’s the skinny on the program’s needs. He’s still got feelers out to other locations, but so far, he’s scheduled one camp:
July 11-15:  Englewood Middle School (3800 S. Logan Street, Englewood, CO 80110)
VOLUNTEER
Volunteers are responsible for the well-being of the riders, walking/running alongside to coach, motivate, and preventing mishaps.
  • No prior experience working with people with disabilities is necessary
  • At least 15 years old
  • Physically able to assist a participant learning to bike
  • Volunteers can attend one (or more) of five different 75-minute daily sessions.  The daily commitment for each session is 90 minutes (15-minute daily training followed by 75-minute riding session).  The ideal volunteer will be able to attend the same session all 5 days as you’ll build a relationship with your rider.
VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION
Volunteers can register for the first camp here:

ROTARY CLUB OF HIGHLANDS RANCH SUNRISE

Don't forget to 'like' our Facebook page! And check it out while you're there "http://www.facebook.com/HRRotarySatellite/"

Please join the Highlands Ranch Rotary Sunrise group for our regular meetings at Eastridge Recreation Center, 9568 S University Blvd. Aspen Room. We are a very active club, have regular speakers, participate in “safe” service volunteer opportunities, and strive to make a difference in the community.  And we have fun at the same time!
Meetings are the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays from 7:15 – 8:30 am.  Please contact either Gary Smith (303-522-3355) or Elena Cumberbatch-Lynch (303-875-3418) if you plan to attend. This is a great opportunity for a make-up meeting or for potential members that cannot easily attend noon meetings.  We look forward to seeing you and welcome any guests that would like to join us!
