Rotary Club of Highlands Ranch Volunteers bringing print and Braille books to Costa Rica

Letter to our own Kevin Mizer:

Dear Mr. Mizer,

On behalf of the Ministry of Public Education of Costa Rica, Dirección Regional de Occidente, I would like to extend our deepest thanks to you and the Highlands Ranch Rotary Club for your generous donation of Braille supplies for our students.

We are truly grateful for your commitment to supporting education and accessibility. Your generosity is a powerful reminder of the positive impact that community partnerships can have on the lives of young learners.

Thank you once again for your support and dedication.

Warm regards,

ML.Paola Artavia Moya

English Pedagogical Advisor

Sunrise volunteers making breakfast at Brent's Place

Sunrise Club Notes

A Sunrise crew (pictured above) had fun helping the chef at Brent’s Place on 8/15 to make and serve breakfast. The activity kits made by the Noon Club were so impressive and greatly appreciated!

John Kennett and Alan Balfour kindly presented a Paul Harris pin to Joel Johnson and to Paul Campbell (Paul in absentia).

We enjoyed serving wine and beer at the RiverPointe Senior Center on 8/12, where we made approximately $200, and another $135 received from Sunrise members this morning in auctioning off the leftovers!

We learned that 3R won’t participate in Saturday recycling events going forward, so as a club we need to decide if we want to move our springtime event back to Friday and try for more sponsorships or keep it to Saturday and drop the electronic recycling. Further discussion to come.

Upcoming dates: Brent’s Place – 7 a.m. 9/26, 10/31, 11/21, and 12/12.  Please contact us if you’d like to sign up for any of these Friday mornings!

Notes from Noon Meeting on 8/21

Brian Frevert delivered the inspiration.

Drew Roberts, past president of the Breckenridge Rotary, spoke about founding a nonprofit this past April, that collects clothing left at mountain resorts and dispenses it to the needy. He told us that he is already expanding his collections to include linens and blankets donated by the hotels.

                  ***********************

Betsy Alexander (pictured below) was presented with a major donor award and John Kennett pointed out that small gifts become large when given on a yearly basis.

Connie Golas let us know that first and second graders in Sedalia and Aurora could use help with their reading. If interested please contact Connie at

Phil Clarke won the 50/50 and better make sure that he is there to sell tickets at the 9/4 meeting!

Thoughts from Mary Kay Hasz (pictured below), former Club President and District Governor:

“It was through Rotary that I learned how important and how life-changing it is to serve and to give back and to have empathy…I think, initially when I joined that I was the only woman, which was no problem as I was used to that. I was the only female in my graduating class in college. I was the only female in the administrative level at the university where I worked…And when I travelled overseas and visited clubs in other countries, I was the only woman in the room and when I asked, where are the women, it was offensive to them. They said, you have your clubs, why can’t we have ours?

When I travelled as District Governor to the 60 clubs in our district I saw that they all had their own personalities but it made me even more appreciative of my own home club.”
