Tamie introduced Thunder Ridge High School's outstanding student, Jaslyn Nguyen who shared her interesting high school experiences.
DIAMONDS & DOGTAGS - Sue Bramley
The Warrior Bonfire annual gala, Diamonds & Dogtags, beat the odds Saturday night, not only hosting live and simulcast events, but actually making a profit! RCHR was the presenting sponsor to 50 attendees at the Forney Museum of Transportation.
Such a festive event with country western entertainment, an inspirational keynote speaker, and silent auction. Registration was handled by the Battlin' Betties Platoon. It's a group of volunteers who serve military, veterans & first responders, dressed in their favorite pin up girl attire! Dinner was a pizza food truck who made personal pizzas in their truck's wood burning stove. But the biggie of the evening was the parking lot bonfire. Every member of our Club should see this powerful event where they retire an American Flag. The Veteran's stand in a circle, placing a red, white & blue stripe on the fire, relating stories of soldiers in their lives, who have been lost, honoring new recruits, and the hardships of families left behind. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. Great job by Mike Foss and his team!
Our Rotary Veterans - Jan Keyton
Kudos to Connie, Mike and Tom for their participation in a Veterans Day Program with 7th graders at Euclid Middle School in the Littleton School District. This was a virtual event with two classes, one hour each, times 4 hours. The Retired Veterans shared their knowledge and experiences of their military service with the students and the students asked many questions in return. Two other retired veterans also joined the Team so each hour was a different set of speakers.
Thanks to all of YOU for your service, prior and now !!
Tamie shared a video describing the devastation from the Colorado fires. Please see the email from Bob Kemp, 10/22, detailing how Rotary is responding and how we can each respond with our donation to the District 5450 Colorado Wildfire Relief Fund and, as understanding increases, help with hands on service. New items are also requested for those displaced from their homes; Jane and family will be in Grandby over the holidays and is willing to take donated items.
Tamie described the District's virtual visioning project and how it will be used to define areas of focus for our Club. She will send a survey of 9 questions and asks we respond with honesty within the next 2 weeks. A follow up committee is also being formed; please let Tamie know if you are interested.
The World Affairs Challenge (WAC) competition in 2021 will be held in Denver on Mar 6th, the theme will be humanity. WAC is looking for judges to help; visit www.worldaffairschallenge.org, go to Participants, and sign up to be a judge. Please let Phil know when you register.

Please join theHighlands Ranch Rotary Sunrise Clubfor our regular meetings. We are currently meeting virtually and hope to return to Children’s Hospital in Highlands Ranch soon. We are still a very active club, have regular speakers, participate in “safe” service volunteer opportunities, and strive to make a difference in the community. And we have fun at the same time!
Zoom call meetings are the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays from 7:15 – 8:30 am. Please contact either Gary Smith (303-522-3355) or Elena Cumberbatch-Lynch (303-875-3418) for the Zoom meeting link. This is a great opportunity for a make-up meeting or for potential members that cannot easily attend noon meetings. We look forward to seeing you and welcome any guests that would like to join us!
