Weekly Bulletin for the week of February 27, 2025

Phil Clarke kicked us off with his deep thoughts for Inspiration: 1) The benefit of not having your phone in the restroom 2) His approach to life: be the radish vs. the chocolate cake.

Big John put on his Rotary Annual Fund Hat and gave us information about how to support PolioPlus and the Annual Fund.
Scott Davenport brought us the student recognition for Amelia Solano from Rock Canyon High School.

Yesterday, March 3rd was "Colorado 303 Day"

Meeting Notes & Announcements:

Noon Meeting Notes & Announcements:

Our greeter last week was Connie Golas. Phil Clarke provided the inspiration and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Our guests included a NEW MEMBER,  Kiki Kearns-Beattie, and Bill Simmermon had Kyle Arington with him. Kyle works with people in recovery who need mental health support.  Filippo was with us along with a friend and his brother. Tamie Fennel, our District Governor, was also with us.

*****

Big John covered the Annual Fund and PolioPlus and reminded us to please consider supporting those efforts.

Steve Miller was given his 3 Ruby Paul Harris Pin.

Scott introduced Amelia Solano from RCHS. Amelia is studying French and Fashion. She loves working with international students who come to her school and is planning to attend CU Leed's School of Business. She started a cancer awareness program at her school called "Jags go pink" and is planing to bring this idea to CU in the fall.

Our speaker was Mark Slattery from The Gift of Adoption Fund. The organization funds adoptions for people already in the process. It is a non-profit with state chapters that are self-funding and the overhead is managed from a central office in Chicago. If you are interested in getting involved, they are always seeking financial support, board leadership, and sponsorships. Their task to alleviate the burden to the foster system is enormous and the demand is high.

We also got to hear from our lovely new member, Shara Hubert. Shara is a talented and energetic entrepreneur who is also the mother of 2. Her son is actively serving in the military and her daughter, a senior at Mountain Vista is getting ready to attend her dream school at Tulane University! Terre Cone introduced Shara and will be mentoring her along with Elaine and others. We are eager to see how Shara plugs in and **breaking news** she MIGHT be available to help with the Wheel Spinner. We will be talking about that soon and keep you all posted. Welcome, Shara, and however you engage, we are excited you chose our amazing club! We should also note, Shara's daughter is a leader with Rotaract and works with Project CURE, so she is considering that angle as well for her club involvement.

Youth / RYLA

It is time to start looking for young people to attend our RYLA and Young RYLA camps. These are sleep away camps that are fully paid for for the kids and their families. RYLA focuses on leadership and fellowship for young people and is often the beginning of a life-long commitment to Rotary.

Look around at your kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, neighbors, etc.

For RYLA we we are seeking Sophomore, Junior, and Senior kids, and for Young RYLA, 7th graders. Camp is in the summer and it is a wonderful, life-changing experience for many kids. Please contact Jan Keyton if you are interested or go to
RockyMountainRYLA.com

Final Notes:

Alan Balfour has organized a blood drive which will be on April 19th. Stay turned for more information.

DG Tamie asked us to consider taking up the placement of "Peace Poles" around Highlands Ranch. This is widely done in Australia and is an inexpensive "mark" ( ~$300) we can make in the name of Peace at our local schools and Civic Buildings.
***We are considering doing this this year at Highlands Ranch High School. Approval has not yet been granted by the Board, but if you are interested in supporting this effort, please contact Kim at kimdecoste09@gmail.com.

The Rotary Club of Highlands Ranch

A reminder that we will need a replacement Editor for The Wheel Spinner by April 1, 2025 at the latest. If you are interested, please contact Kim DeCoste or President Arthur.

Final note, I am able to help the club order new tshirts or logo gear that we can choose, and each person can order what they like and have it sent to them.

I have done this before for personal and public events and groups using something called CustomInk.com . It is not hard and the more we order, the better the prices.  If you would like to be part of a group order, we will get final approval based on interest, and coordinate a clip board/email with details. Please stay tuned or reach out to Kim.

Yours in Rotary,
