LAST WEEK: Update on Belize - Bill Simmermon & Phil Horning
Bill and Phil shared their powerful experience in Belize with "Hope to Walk". 35 million amputees around the world are in need of a prosthetic. Three physicians developed a new type of prosthetic kit for ~$250 and are helping people change their lives. Our Club purchased 20 kits. Shelley Falk from Club Corozal will visit the Club in October and the International Service Committee is planning a trip to Belize early next year. For more information see Hope to Walk's Facebook page.
Tom presented the annual Youth Protection Training.
Rotary International strives to create and maintain a safe environment for all youth who participate in Rotary activities. To the best of their ability, Rotary members, their partners, and other volunteers must safeguard the children and young people with whom they come into contact and protect them from physical, sexual, and psychological abuse.
We welcomed Tariq Khan, Bill Simmermon's neighbor, and our repeat guest, Gail Lehrmann, Area Governor.
Announcements
Ray presented Bill with the Rotary Citation Award for his efforts during his Presidential year. The Rotary Citation, sometimes referred to as the Presidential Citation, is awarded to clubs that meet certain goals or criteria established each year by the incoming Rotary International President. Rotary, Rotaract, and Interact clubs are eligible to earn a Rotary Citation for achieving specific benchmarks, designed to strengthen Rotary and your club. Bill got a thumbs up from his dad.
Bill followed up with awards to the Calderbanks. Elaine received a membership award acknowledging she and her committee's efforts enrolling 12 new members last year. Phenomenal!! Phil received Bill's newly designated award, "Unsung Hero" award, for his contributions to RI, by-laws, Board, and RTT. Truly, the unsung hero.
Thanks to Phil for placing Imagine Rotary theme pins on all the tables. Wear your pin proudly and remember as you travel to other Rotary clubs to share our banner and collect theirs. Phil reminded us to use the Rotary app to find local clubs and all their necessary information.
Kudos to Maria for contributing a bottle of wine to be auctioned for Hope to Walk in Belize. Kevin stepped in for Bob as the most entertaining auctioneer. Thanks to Elizabeth for purchasing the wine.
