LAST WEEK:  Eagle Academy, Heather Clark
Claudia introduced Heather, her second visit to our Club. As a reminder, since 1997 Eagle Academy is Douglas County School District's afternoon/evening (Mon-Thurs, 1-8:30pm) high school dedicated to serving the needs of high school students seeking an alternative path to earning a high school diploma. The school has 140 students, 16-20 years old, and 124 staff. Our Foundation has awarded two scholarships this year: a young male with a single mom and difficult life and a young female without adult supervision. Other opportunities for us to give include Tues night meal nights, snack food for their pantry or the family pantry going out every Thursday night. In addition, twice a year each student receives something special such as a King Sooper gift card allowing them to purchase food, gas, or prescriptions. The staff also receives something special in May. Students graduate using credit hours vs grades in Jan and June.

We welcomed Emilie Strawhun, a friend of Alex, and Carl Husmann who took a membership packet, third time does seem to be a charm!

Congratulations Alex as he is inducted and received his red badge.

Thank you, Jim, for providing this month's Rotary Moment. As a Charter Member Jim reminded us our Club will be 37 years old in July. He shared some of the history of those years noting the two reasons he believes we are such a successful club; in 1987 we accepted women into the club and in 1995-6 we changed our name from Littleton South to the Rotary Club of Highlands Ranch.

As Paul Harris celebrated a birthday Apr 19th, 154 years, we honored our most recent Paul Harris Fellows: Connie Dix via Zoom +1, Reen Gottron +3, Steve Miller +4, Tamie Fennell +4, Debbie Leonard +4, Shrin Murthy +5, and Scott Davenport +6. They each received three emblems, a certificate, medallion, and pin.

Jerry Wilford reminded us Rotary Direct is the easiest way to donate, https://my.rotary.org/en/rotary-direct.

It is also time we say good-bye to our traveling trophy of the Paul Harris award recognizing us as the best club in the District out of 59 clubs.

MVHS Interact Update - Grace Roscoe
"I hope you all are doing well! As the school year is coming to a close and stress levels are rising, Interact Club has been able to continue many fun service activities! At the start of the year, we participated in the Town Center Holiday Party at the Rotary booth. We had a great time and had an amazing turn out! Throughout this past year we have had the opportunity to continue doing Peaceful Schools and Make a Senior Smile. This month's Brookdale video is all about Spring, talking about what your favorite part of Spring is and something that makes you happy. We recently just completed our last Peaceful Schools for the year, servicing many classrooms from grades 1-3. This past week we held our annual Earth Day clean up around our school to help give back to our Earth while also keeping MVHS looking clean. We had great success pairing with the middle school to involve incoming students with over 40 students in attendance.  Our club is looking forward to many more ways to give back in the upcoming school year. We wouldn't be able to do everything we do without Rotary’s support. The MVHS Interact Club enjoys being able to interact with our community and provide a few smiles to others' faces. We appreciate and thank you for your continuous support."

Please join the Highlands Ranch Rotary Sunrise group for our regular meetings at Eastridge Recreation Center, 9568 S University Blvd. Aspen Room. We are a very active club, have regular speakers, participate in “safe” service volunteer opportunities, and strive to make a difference in the community.  And we have fun at the same time!
Meetings are the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays from 7:15 – 8:30 am.  Please contact either Gary Smith (303-522-3355) or Elena Cumberbatch-Lynch (303-875-3418) if you plan to attend. This is a great opportunity for a make-up meeting or for potential members that cannot easily attend noon meetings.  We look forward to seeing you and welcome any guests that would like to join us!
