RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) is an intensive leadership development program organized by Rotary clubs and districts worldwide for participants ranging in age from 11 on up.
Ella Ruger addressed us and spoke of her experiences at Young RYLA. She feels much more confident of her leadership skills after her camping trip. Our own Jean Baker-Temple proctored in Estes Park and was delighted (and worn out) by the reception of the young participants.
Rocky Mountain RYLA currently offers two RYLA programs: RYLAand Young RYLA. Participants attend our week-long conferences to build skills in communication, problem-solving, team dynamics, ethics, and community service while networking with Rotarians and peers. RYLA and Young RYLA participants have an opportunity to:
Build communication and problem-solving skills
Discover strategies for becoming a dynamic leader in school or community
Learn from community leaders, inspirational speakers, and peer mentors
Unlock potential to turn motivation into action
Have fun and form lasting friendships
RYLA and Young RYLA are life-changing leadership training programs where young people learn, develop, and enhance leadership skills and principles in an atmosphere of trust and respect. Our conferences encourage and assist current and potential youth leaders in methods of responsible and effective leadership. Many past attendees claim, “It was the best week of my life!” Please let Jan Keyton know if you know someone who might be interested.

Who Are You…Really?
For a long time the Noon Club has opened its meetings with an “inspiration.” Our esteemed social chair, Nancy Barton, suggested at our last meeting that we put the “inspiration” on temporary hiatus and replace it with a “getting to know you…again” five minute presentation. This idea was approved by acclimation. Now, we will get to enjoy a glimpse of life stories of members who long ago gave their “Classification” talks or (more currently) “Getting to Know You” speeches. The response to this change has been dramatic and emphatic. Sign up with Nancy but be aware that the opening "abridged memoirs" have now been scheduled through the end of 2026!

Rotarian hits the big time!
After failing to get her first seven books published, Virginia Evans (above) has a mega-hit in her novel “The Correspondent,” now 38 weeks on the NY Times Best Sellers list, and soon to be a major motion picture!
She has been an officer in the Winston-Salem Rotary for over seven years!
Rotary helps bolster resilience and creativity. Hooray Virginia (and yes there is a Santa Claus!).
Thanks to Beth Clarke for proofreading, to Kari Brown for tech support, to Jan Keyton for a submitted photo, and to you for being a Rotarian and reading this far!
