LAST WEEK: Dave Amen, eClubs, how they started and why they are important
After providing a fascinating history of Rotary, Dave described his transition from the Denver SE Club to eClub 1, a truly international club with members throughout the world. Who joins an eclub: current and previous members who may live too far from a regular club, are confined by work or travel schedules, or can't afford a regular club (their dues are $400 annually). Our next DG, Buchi Anikpezie, lives in Houston and is a member of eClub 1. For more information, www.rotaryeclubone.org.
We welcomed Jeanne Taylor and Jack Smutka, Dave's friend.
And, we had our newest members induction: Phil Clarke with his mentor, John Logan and Eric Kinsey without his wife and mentor, Elya. Both received their red badges, Rotary cap and t-shirts. Congratulations!
Phil Calderbank bought this week's auctioned wine, a French Chablis, and presented it to Guy for his support and hard work.
As we move forward Bob is asking for "Rare and Unusual Auction Item Donations". This could be a piece of art, a signed athletic piece, anything rare and unusual. Please contact Bob about what you are interested in having him auction prior to the meeting.
Announcements
Tamie announced the development of our Mental Health Committee, thanks to Shrin, with sobering facts about suicide in 10-24 year olds and mental health needs in Colorado. The team is looking to understand what we can do and welcomes interested members.
Debbie Leonard described the goals of the Public Relations Committee: raise awareness of Rotary; attract new members; and, attract new sponsors. She placed our new awareness cards on the dining tables encouraging members to take to introduce and discuss Rotary. The QR code on the cards directs readers to our website. The cards may be placed on community bulletin boards such as Starbucks.
Jan Keyton announced our participation in the HRCA "Hometown Holiday" on Dec 3rd, 4:30-7:30pm in Town Center, Highlands Ranch. " We will be serving hot apple cider under our brand new Rotary Canopy, along with displaying our Rotary Wheel inflatable. All decked out as Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer will be Theresa Cone, and an extra bonus will be Santa’s Elf, aka Tamie Fennell. The Interact Club from MVHS will be sending four volunteers to help pour cider along with other Club members. We invite you to “come on down” and enjoy the Holiday Season Kick-off. Santa will be there too, of course!!"
Jan provides additional clarification regarding 2022 RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) and Young RYLA.
"So excited to share the news that 2022 RYLA and Young RYLA Conferences will be held again next summer. RYLA dates are July 17-22 (third week in July) and applications will be open to this year’s sophomores, juniors and graduating seniors (10, 11, 12th graders this year). Because we have not been able to hold RYLA for the past two years, we are including graduating seniors 2022 as they have missed their turn (a one-time only exception). Young RYLA will hold two conferences this year: the first week in late June, the 19th - 24th, and the second week in July, the 24 - 29th. Current 7th graders may apply for Young RYLA. All three conferences will be held at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park. Applications on the website will open early February, 2022.
The website is: www.rockymountainryla.org. Please let Jan Keyton know if you have family/friends/neighbors who might be interested in applying for a conference. Questions: please call our RYLA Rep."

Our healing thoughts are going out to Jon Heggie as he recovers from surgery on his broken foot.
