Last Week's Speaker - Sean Sheidman, Douglas County Sheriff's Department, YESS (Youth Education & Safety in Schools) Program
This was started as a homegrown program 10 years ago as an expansion of DARE dealing with social and emotional development of 6th - 9th graders in Douglas County. Three topics are discussed: relationships, digital citizenship, and substance abuse allowing kids to make good choices, feel they are being heard, and focusing on mental health. Tamie sent an email for those interested in participating in the Parent Academy today from 11:30 to 1:00pm.
LENDING A HAND - Sue Bramley
Our hardy group of 6 - plus 2 kids - braved the elements (by elements I mean heat!) Tuesday to assist with food distribution at IFCS. We loaded 65 cars with a variety of protein, vegetables & milk. What a wonderful experience, being with people, interacting with people, helping people & assisting IFCS with their clients made for a great morning! Moms stopped by with babies & kids, seniors drove through, all with bright smiles and big, big thank yous! It was such a successful day that we're already scheduling a repeat in the near future. Watch for it, as you won't want to be left out on this community service opportunity! Big thanks to Claudia, Tammy, Elizabeth, Tom & Marty Generaux, The Bramley's daughter & the Caves' son-in-law.
A special thanks to Marty for his awesome video of the event, https://youtu.be/DphHobgVyQE
A few more are needed for IFCS food distribution Sep 2nd and all slots open for Oct 7th, contact Claudia if interested.
