From Wind Crest Judy Pendleton:
Highlands Ranch Rotary’s new satellite club, the Flyin’ B Rotary Club, has a project up and running called “Stuff & Stitch” where volunteers make and stuff Comfort Pillows for children and adults who are “hurting” physically or emotionally. Rotarians Judy Pendleton, Carol Wright, and Gail Mullin from Flyin’ B lead a group of volunteer “stuffers”, four of whom have limited or no vision, and a group of “stitchers” who stitch the washable cotton and cotton-blend and flannel pillows for stuffing and also close the stuffing holes after the polyester fiberfill is added. In April, the program is set to expand their stuffing parties to the residents of Mill Vista Lodge, the continuing care neighborhood at Wind Crest, where 40—80 pillows will be stuffed monthly by residents who are eager to do something for others. Recipients of the pillows are Children’s Hospital of H.R., patrol cars in Denver, Collier and Denver Hospices, Anschutz Palliative Care unit, a Denver veteran’s ministry and various homeless or immigrant and refugee programs. Photos show a Stuff & Stitch party held in the Pendleton’s apartment at Wind Crest on 3/28/24 and the pile of pillows produced that afternoon by the eight volunteers. Each month the goal is to deliver 180 pillows through these and other suggested outlets. The average cost per pillow is $1.00. This cost is partially offset by donations of washable good quality fabric in solid colors or cheerful prints suitable for men, women and children’s pillows…and monetary donations toward Walmart’s polyester fiberfill ($15 per 50 ounces.)
