THIS WEEK: JJ Johnson, Zuma's Rescue Ranch and Club Biz
Greeter(s): Mary Kay Hasz
Inspiration: Ray Anderson
50/50 winner: Steve Miller
LAST WEEK:Justin Kruger, Project Helping
Debby introduced Justin who shared his personal mental health experiences in developing Project Helping. Project Helping organizes and leads meaningful, social, and accessible volunteer projects to leverage the health benefits of serving others to improve the mental wellness of the volunteer. Specifically focusing on adolescent mental health Justin has begun distributing Kynd Kits, a volunteer project and teen mental health care kit in a box, in high schools. Kynd schools also have youth advisory councils for mental health resources. To learn more and/or order your Kynd kit see projecthelping.org.
We welcomed Mike O'Brien as this week's guest and Chip Hartney as our new member.
Thank you, Arthur, as he stepped in as President while Tom recovers from eye surgery.
Tamie and Tom gave a Bright Futures update, when the meeting started Tamie was setting the scale to $98,375 but that was not to be the case. An additional $5000 was donated during the meeting for $103,375 or 87% of our goal ($120,000)!
Remember, our ultimate goal is for 100% of the Club to donate; a certain amount is not required, simply a donation. The Sunrise group have 100% commitment.
This week we also had drawings from those who have donated; Debby won the bottle of wine and Connie Golas the gift card.
Connie Golas has a signup sheet for the Rotary District Area 4 meeting Aug 31st. (See email sent Aug 2nd for complete details or flyers placed on all tables.) The District is providing hotdogs and brats; our Club is responsible for appetizers and/or sides (single servings only). BYOB - bring your own beverages. Please sign up indicating what you will bring and how many in your party, family and kids welcome.
A "Christmas in August" fundraiser is also being held; please bring a $10+ gift card to the event.
Congratulations to Terre Cone who purchased last week's beautiful auction item.

From Jan Keyton:
Our Club is hosting an After- RYLA Dinner Party to hear the kids describe their experiences on Aug 22nd at the Northridge Rec Center Pavilion, 6:30pm-8pm. If attending, please RSVP to Jan by Aug 19th. Box Dinners will be served, $14/person. Sandwich choices are available when you RSVP.
Michelle, Arthur, and Claudia (excuse me if I'm forgetting someone) were RYLA Counselors this year. Claudia shared a touching story about one of her kids, Bobby; Bobby has health problems and lives with his grandmother. Bobby is a fighter and seems he got it from Grandma however Grandma needs new tires for her car. As Claudia was proceeding with her story Debby stood up and graciously donated $1000 towards the tires from our Foundation. It is heartwarming to see our Club in action. Thank you!
Kevin gave an update on the Afghan family: the kids are in school (and doing better in English thanks to Katie's tutoring), Mom is learning to drive, and Dad is successfully working. Kevin's poignant words, "We set a ball in motion, this family will help other families."
