LAST WEEK
Nikki Koster, JAMLAC
(Justice and Mercy Legal Aid Center - Mile High Ministries)
It was a pleasure to have Jane's daughter, Nikki, return and remind us how JAMLAC's support helps fight injustice and those struggling in poverty. The primary goal of the JAMLAC staff is to provide holistic support and legal representation to the impoverished people within the metro Denver community. JAMLAC partners with various organizations that focus their effort on the homeless and those in danger of becoming homeless. They are able to provide comprehensive civil legal assistance, advocacy, immigration, and holistic services to immigrant and non-immigrant victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and dating violence. Services include bi-lingual access to legal representation including pro bono for domestic and immigration issues, pro se advocacy, and consultations for domestic matters. "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute, speak up and judge fairly, defend the rights of the poor and needy." Proverbs 31:8-9. Nikki thanked us for being part of their mission.

Announcements
Today is Earth Day and Tamie shared a video of a fellow Rotarian breaking barriers society has created. Story available in the Aug 21, 2020 Rotarian magazine.
It's awards time in our District and, in addition to Tamie submitting and award for Kari, she also submitted a membership award for Elaine. Fingers crossed for two amazing women.
Since we last met some significant news:
RYLA will be virtual this year - it will be one day only on Saturday, July 24, 2021. Presenters include Cory Ciocchetti, DU professor, and Gitanjali Rao, Time Magazine’s first-ever Kid of the Year. A much simpler registration will open soon for all high school students (current 9th through 12th graders.) Direct potential applicants to www.rmRYLA.org to apply using the application link. Please share with schools, Rotarian, and anyone else. Registration will be open until June 30 or until full (first-come, first-serve). No young RYLA this year, look forward to the regular RYLAs in 2022. Check www.rmRYLA.org for updated information.
Headline: Some Palisade farmers say peach crop could be best yet!!
"Temperatures have not dropped below 27 degrees — which would ruin the crops — and some farmers believe this year’s crop might be the best yet". Nothing against Georgia but it will be fabulous to have our Palisade peaches back!
