Last Week:Christine Meek, Mental Neurobics - Keep Your Brain Active
Sue introduced Christine who emphasized the 5 areas of focus as we age: finances, physical health, mental health, social health, and transportation. Christine placed rebus puzzles on the tables for us to solve. (Rebus puzzle is a puzzle device that combines the use of illustrated pictures with individual letters to depict words or phrases.)
Neurobics is a form of brain exercise to maintain its agility and flexibility. It breaks the automated or habitual mental schemes in order to wake up those areas of the brain that might be dormant, enhancing your brain capacity. Our brains are muscles too and also require workouts. My suggestion, Google neurobics for specific exercises such as brushing your teeth with your non-dominant hand.
We again welcomed Mike O'Brien, who submitted his membership application, as well as two potential new members, Colette Hepp and Anastasiya Merkhasina. Looks like 2023 will be another good year.
David Willman, District Foundation Chair, also joined us.David and Jerry Wilford recognized our newest Level One Paul Harris Major Donors, Jeannie Taylor and Ray Anderson who join Jerry Wilford and Bob Larson as Major Donors. The Rotary Foundation recognizes those individuals whose personal giving has reached $10,000, regardless of the gift designation.
David, also a Major Donor, waited for this opportunity to receive his pin and crystal from Ray.
Elaine inducted Brian Fevert and he received his red badge from his mentor Scott. Fellow singers, Bob Larson and Ron introduced Brian to our Club.
Tamie, Shrin, and Debby presented the 2022-23 financials from Bright Futures.
$125,045 - Sponsorship campaign
$7837 - Live auction
$660 - Misc donations
Minus $20,018 - expenses
Net = $113,524, the highest in the past 6 years including donations from 90% members and 10% outside (non-Rotarians)
Approximately 60% of these funds have been delegated directly to RCHR committees, Community Service, International Service, Military, and Youth Services. Additional funding supports our nonprofit partners through direct HRRF donations.
The Bright Futures (BF) committee has been faced with tough decisions moving forward: maintaining a gala/ event for < $20,000 that is primarily attended by Club members and their families/guests and finding volunteers willing to donate their time to coordinate such an event. Therefore, the following decisions:
Target 100% of BF contributions go directly to our committee programs and/or our nonprofit partners
Discontinue spending annual BF contributions to host a gala/event
BF Committee engage members in annual 8–10-week BF Appeal necessary to support and sustain HRRF
From this, any expenses to be covered by Club/Foundation budget/TBD
Please contact Jane if you are interested in joining the Bright Futures Planning Committee Mar 16th, 10-11am, Lone Tree Golf Club. Committee needs a committee lead, administrative assistance, graphic design assistance, and Club spokesperson.
For the second week, Shrin, Chair of the Nominating Committee presented the proposed candidates for the President-Elect Nominee (2024-2025) and two Board of Directors (2023-2024) and asked for nominations from the floor. The Committee selected Jeannie Taylor and Eric Kinsey for the Board of Directors. No nominations were received from the floor for these positions. Happily, Bob Martin was presented as a candidate for President-Elect Nominee. No additional nomination was received from the floor for this position. Nominations remain open the next meeting.
Thank you, Bob Martin, for officiating the meeting.
