This week's greeter was our new Social Committee Lead Volunteer, Kristy Hayzlett. Tomorrow (Thursday, October 17th) Kristy will deliver her Getting to Know You presentation. Please join us to support her and find out more about her very interesting and very busy life!
Our inspiration was given by Robin Aguilar who read a simple story about turtles. The message was one that elicited an "Awww" from the room. Doing small things that might not even be noticeable to many still have impact and are worth doing. Thanks, Robin, for a good reminder.
Our guests included members of the International Committee from the Littleton Club as well as Jerimiah Muhmo, a visiting Rotarian from Kenya. We also had Heidi Taylor from the Littleton Club and Nancy Holms.
Additionally, we were happy to see Colleen Hill, previously from Raleigh, NC, back again to visit us and to join our club! Welcome Colleen!
Our new Student Nominee of the Week was a remarkable young man from THE Highlands Ranch High School. Alex Fiduccia was introduced by Bill Leeper. Alex is a Varsity Wrestler at Ranch. He is in DECA and does something called the Cyber Patriots Program in conjunction with the US Air Force.
Alex and his teammates compete to solve complex cyber challenges in an effort to understand some of the covert work we are developing for military applications involving the use of Artificial Intelligence. Alex aspires, perhaps, to work in clandestine services or in a related field. We, of course, are both in awe of his ambition as we appreciate his interest in our national security.
For our main program, we had Julie Huygen from the Arapahoe/Douglas County League of Women Voters. Though we did take notes, which I am happy to share (as Kim), in the interest of political objectivity and because we are running late this week, it is best that we just indicate that Julie did cover the Seven Amendments, 5 Propositions, and 2 Questions that we all will have to decide upon when we cast our ballots.
Here are some of the highlights from the information she passed out to us at the meeting.

MEETING ANNOUNCEMENTS
PEN ANNOUNCEMENT:
We are seeking volunteers for the nomination committee. Nominees will also be published here in the Wheel Spinner, of course. Tomorrow (10/17) we will begin the process for member nominations for the following three weeks. The committee will lso identify up to three candidates which will be announced and published for 3 weeks in the Wheel Spinner to give you all time to think it over and speak to one another. The vote will be taken via email in late December or early January by Claudia.
Please remember to bring any mobility devices or shoes to donate tomorrow so that Win can add them to the work he is doing to collect for Wind Crest's drive the following week with the Flyin' B.
The WASH Symposium is 10/10. Please contact our friends Steve Werner or Peter Van Arsdale of the Denver Southeast Rotary Club if you need additional details or they can be found on our District Website. The WASH effort, for those who are new, supports water and sanitation around the world.
Thanks once more to the volunteers from the House of Friendship at District Conference.
Please note that we will begin a membership survey very soon. It is important that we all take time to offer our input, please.
Like voting, it is a way for you to have input into how things are run and helps club leaders meet membership needs and wishes.
You are the club and your input matters! Thank you in advance for taking the time.
Family of Rotary:
GREAT NEWS from Elaine - Phil Calderbank is CANCER FREE! We are so blessed and happy to know he will be back with us when he can, and we hope he and Elaine are ready for all the joy we can muster.
On the other hand, please send your prayers and best wishes to Peter Ulrich. Pete is going through a tough time health-wise right now and is mostly staying close to home. He might appreciate a call or a note if you are so inclined. We certainly will hold him in our hearts at this time.
Also, Tim Sparks is battling pneumonia last we checked he was still at Skyridge; that might have changed since we are running a bit slow this week, but if you have a moment to check in with him, he might appreciate that.
We checked in with the Kinsey family, who, you know, moved to Florida just in time for the hurricane. They reported that they all rode out the storm as the eye went right over their home! They are fine; we did not find out if they suffered any damage to their home, but all are healthy and safe.
We did observe a moment of silence for our friend Doug Hilde who passed away peacefully in his home a week ago Saturday. We will miss him and we send our best to his family.

Tomorrow our own Bill Leeper will be at the helm while the President and First Lady are out of town. Safe travels to them and we look forward to seeing Bill and all of you tomorrow!
It is a great day to be a Rotarian; make it fun!
See you tomorrow, friends.
