Weekly Bulletin for the week of March 20, 2025

Student of the week from Highlands Ranch High School,
Alex Fiduccia joined us with his parents.
Watch your Mailboxes! Ballots should have arrived.
Our speaker, Julie Huygen, was from the League of Women Voters.
A wonderful meeting for us with members of the Littleton Club and a Visiting Rotarian, Jeremiah Muhmo, from Kenya. Our collaborative work will benefit children in Nairobi.

Noon Meeting Notes & Announcements:

Our greeter last week was Terre Cone.

President Arthur shared that we got a thank you from the head of Polio Plus. Our club gave $9815 to Polio last year which puts us in an elite circle of clubs - only 21 globally - to have so exceeded their goal. Thanks to all who have given. Big John reminded us in RMD season before the Tax Deadline, you can still give.

Our Inspiration was given by Kim DeCoste. She shared a poem called "Bits & Pieces" by an unknown Author. It was found in an obscure Christian Church Book years ago and has a special place in Kim's heart.

Our Guests were:
  • A brand new walk-in from Minnesota. We had a gentleman named John join us and he is evaluating Rotary.
  • Filippo was with us, and he and Marion announced they will host a Friendship Meal at her home on the 12th of April when we do the Club Friendship Dinners that weekend.
  • We welcomed Nancy Barton back from Australia and Kristy Hayzlett also returned from a sprint of home sales in Maryland in the past several weeks.

Pete passed The Rock along to Chip Hartney. Chip is another quietly generous Rotarian who does a lot for the club behind the scenes. Thank you, Chip, for your service to our club!

Elizabeth reminded everyone that the Blanket Tying event is coming to her house this week on the 27th. Please reach out to her if you would like to come. Reen noted you can order the materials almost ready to go on Amazon and then join the party for the final tying.

Our presentation was a fascinating look back at the MLB's history and Denver's long battle to bring baseball to Colorado. Kathi Williams, retired Republican Legislator and business leader, came and shared the saga with us in detail.

Kathi is promoting the anniversary of the team and a new film detailing the story. There will be a live presentation of the film on PBS 12 on March 31st at 9 pm.

The film is also streaming on 9News+

In the way of meeting announcements, here is what we had:
  • Shrin and Connie announced that we did get the District Direct Funding (DDF) to support our water project in Cambodia. Thanks to their hard work and the matching of the District, we will have $3K for 15 pumps in Cambodia!

  • We are still looking for Rotary Readers for Arrowood Elementary.

  • Robin told us that project Angel Heart will be doing a Restaurant night on 4/24/25 called "Dining Out for Life". You can find details on their website but locally you can eat that night at 4 area restaurants and the funds will go to project Angel Heart. Here in our neighborhood Beau Jo's and Cranelli's are participating. In Littleton, they have The Cherry Cricket and LuBo's NY Pizza helping them out with proceeds from that night's sales.

  • Sue and Alan will be heading a Blood Drive on 4/19. We will need volunteers to help and we need donors. It will be at the Lone Tree Golf Club.

  • We are still seeking hosts for the Friendship Dinners on 4/11 and 4/12. Please reach out to Terre or Arthur if you are able to help out, as Nancy is out of town and Kristy has been working out of town the past few weeks. There will be sign up sheets at the meeting. We would like to see 8-10 per home. It is a hosted BYOB potluck. The host offers the main dish.

  • Please remember that dues are due. Please read the invoice for credit card billing information and please do not delay.

  • President Arthur announced that we will have a table in the House of Friendship in Calgary. We hope our members in attendance will offer a few hours to work at the table representing our club and our contributions. Please speak with Arthur if you have any questions. We will be presenting the "Solar Panels for Humanity" program; it is an expansion of Solar Panels for Ukraine. There will be 35,000 Rotarians there, so it is a great time to see Rotary International at work in North America!

For
Family of Rotary we did not have any updates last week that we can recall.

Lucky Jim Kelly won the 50/50 once again!

Additional notes follow below from committees and community service. Have a great week and see you Thursday!

Youth / RYLA

It is time to start looking for young people to attend our RYLA and Young RYLA camps. These are sleep away camps that are fully paid for for the kids and their families. RYLA focuses on leadership and fellowship for young people and is often the beginning of a life-long commitment to Rotary.

Look around at your kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, neighbors, etc.

For RYLA we we are seeking Sophomore, Junior, and Senior kids, and for Young RYLA, 7th graders. Camp is in the summer and it is a wonderful, life-changing experience for many kids. Please contact Jan Keyton if you are interested or go to
RockyMountainRYLA.com
.

Special Thanks came to us from

PR Committee

Final Notes:

DG Tamie asked us to consider taking up the placement of "Peace Poles" around Highlands Ranch. This is widely done in Australia and is an inexpensive "mark" ( ~$300) we can make in the name of Peace at our local schools and Civic Buildings. There is a group working on this. They are trying to identify/get approval for the appropriate location. Steve Miller and Claudia are collaborating on this effort.

The Rotary Club of Highlands Ranch

A reminder that we will need a replacement Editor for The Wheel Spinner by April 15, 2025 at the latest. If you are interested, please contact Kim DeCoste or President Arthur.

Final note, I am able to help the club order new t-shirts or logo gear that we can choose, and each person can order what they like and have it sent to them.

I have done this before for personal and public events and groups using something called CustomInk.com . Details will be presented to the club at a future meeting. There is still flexibility in the design. We will use official brand logos from Rotary Central. Feel free to contact Kim after the presentation if you have any input. We will do this soon if there is an interest so that the shirts (or whatever we decide to order) arrive before I leave the club at the end of May.

Yours in Rotary,
