Toward Bright Futures

Lori and Alan Balfour were sailing off the coast of Portugal (of course they were) when they experienced the latest lunar eclipse.

Here at home we were eclipsing our goal of $135,000 which will  help fund many worthwhile causes in this coming year. Special kudos to Debbie Leonard and Brian Frevert for their steady efforts and gentle prodding.

At the most recent Noon Meeting, Carlos Garcia (above) spoke to us about his experiences at RYLA, first as a camper and then as a Junior Counselor. He also inspired us with his story about losing his legs at age nine in a boating accident, his struggles through depression and his search for purpose. He has just begun his freshman year at CSU. He received a well- deserved standing ovation.

Brian Frevert asks that we wear our brightest outfits to the August 27th Noon Meeting to celebrate Bright Futures!

Sue Bramley (above) kicked off our “Getting to Know You…again” series and spoke of finding her “snow mate” when she worked for the Colorado Ski Association. Now she leads OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) classes at the University of Denver. She was not only informative and funny, but also stayed within the 5 minute time limit. Well done Ms Bramley! (OLLI@DU.edu

 Classes start on 9/14).

Sunrise Club

Peyton Manning was not able to address the Sunrise Club at the last meeting, but he often wears the traditional “Sunrise Blazer” to remind folks of the importance of Service Above Self.

The Fly'n B at Wind Crest

Continues to assist on solar chargers for Ukraine, along with numerous other projects!

Postscript: It's now been about a year since I took the reins of the Wheel Spinner. I enjoy putting it together and encourage members of the Sunrise and Fly'n B clubs to keep me in the loop as to their activities.

Thanks to those who have given me encouragement through my first year.

Phil

PPS: No Wheel Spinner next week as no Noon meeting this week.
