Dawna Searcy, the Homeless Student Liaison from the Douglas County School District, presented last week on the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.  She defined Homeless Children and Youth as those with a lack of fixed, regular or adequate nighttime residence.  The District’s goal is to ensure that homeless students in Douglas County have the right to, and remove barriers to, enroll, attend, participate and succeed in public school.  In the 2013-2014 School Year, there were 970 identified homeless students with 696 of these students enrolled in Douglas County schools.  In the 4 Highlands Ranch School’s feeder there were 200 students who were identified as homeless.
