The Rotary Club of Highlands Ranch recognized two outstanding students at its November 13th luncheon.

Parker Groves, a senior at Rock Canyon High School, was accompanied by his parents, K.C. and Darci Groves.  In addition his language teacher, Margaret Motz and the assistant principal, Christopher Page were guests.  Parker was nominated by his Spanish and English Department.  He enjoys learning languages and anticipates studying foreign language when he goes to college.  His language teacher shared a story about how Parker was challenged to do a French project.  The project became being introduced to a French African family who shared a meal with him in their home.  He enjoys broadening his cultural horizons and briefly informed the members about trips to Southwest Indian reservations where he learned about the difficulties many of the Native Americans face.  It was a joy to have Parker as our guest.

Trevor McCord is a senior at ThunderRidge High School.  His mother, Kristin and school administrator, Dave Stickland, were his guests.  Trevor excels in his studies, specifically math.  He would like to become an engineer or an actuarial mathematician.  He has applied to many universities, including Princeton, Harvard, Stanford and MIT.  Trevor is active in his school and has shown leadership skills by being Captain of his Golf and Tennis teams.  Trevor was one of three students to attend the University of Colorado Captain leadership conference.  Here he gained valuable insight into how to be the most effective athletic leader possible.  An interesting passion that Trevor spoke to the club about music and his alternative band, Sunset Summer.  Trevor plays the drums.  The band has written three songs and working on more.  These songs have been professionally recorded and are even available for download on iTunes.  It was a pleasure to have Trevor as our guest.
