GAIL LEHRMAN TALKED ABOUT FOUNDATION FUNDS

Speaker: Gail Lehrman  from district spoke on Rotary as an Organization and how the Club level, Club Foundation, Rotary Foundation, and Rotary International all work together.  She discussed how funds collected are used and redistributed to the clubs for projects.  She addressed Rotary Direct and how easy it is to give and how that money is used.

Jerry Wilford- shared how $2500 turned into $16000 for the Costa Rica Project last year.

 THIS WEEK

CELEBRATE VALENTINES DAY - ROTARY STYLE

We're trying something new - on Thursday, Feb. 15, bring you spouse to Rotary!  What better way to show your spouse what you do each Thursday. Of course you will need to pay for their lunch, but small price to pay for having them enjoy a Rotary day!

FYI

International committee meeting is being rescheduled due to bring your spouse to Rotary day.

Bring in your donations for the Warrior Bonfire gift bags!

Mike Foss asks members to attend a fundraiser, Colorado Gives a Damn, sponsored by the Colorado Business Roundtable.  Proceeds will be split between Warrior Bonfire, Valor Bridge & Assn of the U.S. Army, Denver Centennial Chapter.  The event will be held Tuesday, March 6 at the Falls Event Center.  Contact Lisa Gregg lgreg@cobrt.com for more info.

BIG PLANS IN CENTRAL AMERICA!
COSTA RICA
The International Committee has another trip to Costa Rica in the works. Jerry, Phil and Marion will be joining with the Peace Corps in order to deliver our own Foundation in International Business Studies course to the IB school. This course has been developed by Phil Calderbank and has been accepted by the Costa Rica Department of Education for use in all of its 21 schools. A further visit is planned for October.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC (DR)
With schools in desperate need of books and educational materials, the club is putting together a program with Peace Corps that will reach both elementary and high schools including:
  1. Peaceful Schools Program
  2. Partnership with the Give a Book program.
  3. International Business Studies Foundation course to the top international baccalaureate schools in DR.
With the Peace Corps' focus on the DR's Childhood Literacy Program, we would be contributing a greatly needed service.  This is tentatively planned for 2019. In May Phil will be joining with Carl; Give a Book and Ross; Peace Corps on an exploratory visit to meet with Schools, Peace Corps and local Rotary in the DR.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC FUNDRAISER IN DENVER
To that end, there is a fundraiser to be held on St. Patrick's Day in Centennial to raise funds for 3 Mariposas Montessori in DR. You'll learn about their incredible achievements and here stories  about their Montessori school in one of the poorest parts of the country. What with caring people + Dominican appetizers + being a part of 3MM's dream = a night to remember!!!

Please contact Phil for details and look out for an e mail invitation in your mail box.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK 2.6.18

A total lunar eclipse occurs when the moon moves directly behind the Earth’s shadow, or umbra, meaning it cannot receive any light from the Sun. The phenomenon occurs only every 150 years and it will be visible in its entirety from Western North America across the Pacific to Eastern Asia.
